Job Requirements The Chronicle of Higher Education is looking for a smart, technically savvy multimedia producer to join our award-winning Visuals Department.

The Chronicle is the premier source for news and information about higher education, and you'll be part of our web team. Your core duties will involve a variety of multimedia—audio, video, photos, informational graphics, and motion graphics—to support our core news content. On some days, you’ll help coordinate an informational graphic or work with a freelancer on a motion animation. On other days, you’ll interview a reporter, editors, or an influential member of academe and produce audio or video. You’ll also be involved in presentation of stories using our CMS and some light web development. Opportunities to work on special projects and news apps will also be available.

We're looking for a talented individual who thrives on deadline, is self-motivated and proactive, and a team player that enjoys collaborating with others and running with a project. The right person is flexible, comfortable with change, and willing to try new software and other technologies.

Do you fit this profile?

You want to make a difference in journalism. We're storytellers by nature, and the presentation of news and information in all its varied forms in critical to communicating the essential elements of a story. You believe that the work you do can be a catalyst for change, and to help our audience make informed decisions. In short, you're part news junkie and part passionate storyteller.

You have experience producing editorial content. You've worked for a news organization for a few years, and you thrive in a faster-paced environment. You think about alternative ways to tell stories, and are up on the latest technology. You are a whiz with Final Cut Pro, Brightcove, SoundCloud and other editing software. You know HTML and CSS, and are generally comfortable with code.

You are immersed in the digital world. You’re the type of individual who looks at an informational graphic, watches video, or listens to audio, and instinctively begins to break the piece down into its elements and consider the strengths and weakness of the storytelling. You do the same thing on web sites and mobile apps—only you're also thinking about the functionality of the buttons, menus, and the organization of the content. You're also the type who reads a story and starts thinking about alternative ways to communicate the story—timelines, charts, audio Q&A, short-form video documentary, etc.

If the above information describes you, and you have five or more years of experience, let's get the process started! Send the link to your portfolio and resume to recruiting@chronicle.com.
