The successful candidate will have:
o Experience in developing research hypotheses, composing opinion surveys and interview guides, conducting interviews, and analyzing quantitative survey results.
o Knowledge of the corporate finance function, information technology, business strategy, and executive decision-making at large companies.
o Experience in writing analytical, narrative business prose to a publishable standard for a sophisticated executive audience.
o Experience in working with teams of contributors, designers, production staff members, and editors to execute complex research and publishing projects.
o Ability to work effectively with project underwriters, executive sources, and other team members.
o Analytical skills, knowledge of descriptive statistics, and fundamental sense of curiosity about research assignments.
o Experience in developing and presenting engaging narratives from complex data sets.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

EDITORIAL
o Define project objectives in consultation with underwriters.
o Prepare materials for quantitative and qualitative research, including executive opinion surveys, interview guides, and desk research.
o Conduct interviews with senior finance executives working around the world; manage teams of contributors conducting interviews and composing deliverables for publication.
o Analyze survey data in search of patterns that reveal executives’ preferences and priorities, business practices that yield desirable outcomes, investment plans, etc.
o Derive narrative story from research programs in support of research hypotheses and CFO Research’s editorial mission.
o Write reports based on findings from research programs. Prepare text, graphics, sidebars, etc. for publication.
o Work with design, editorial, and production teams in book-making process to create high-quality, co-branded reports, videos, tablet apps, infographics, and other published deliverables.
o Write and deliver webcast and conference presentations based on reports; moderate conference and meeting sessions.
o Review and edit documents and deliverables (draft surveys, reports, video presentations, conference presentations, graphics, and so on) for other team members.
o Provide editorial and quality oversight on research-related publications, announcements, and promotions, as needed.

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT
o Serve as sponsors’ primary contact at CFO Research. Work with sponsors to develop research and/or custom publishing programs that meet their objectives. Ensure that all studies conducted by CFO Research serve our readers’ desire for high-quality, analytical, factually sound research on corporate finance.
o Negotiate with sponsors' teams on the scope of research and publishing projects and effectively present the group's interpretation of survey and interview findings.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
o Coordinate the activities of editorial, operations, art, and marketing teams as needed to execute and deliver assigned research and publishing programs.
o As needed, manage freelance or third-party contributors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree; 5+ years experience in consulting, research, publishing, or related fields.

The senior editor for research will have editorial and account responsibility for thought-leadership research and publication projects. Using surveys, interviews, databases, and other sources, the CFO Research team prepares research studies that help finance executives be more professionally effective and help study underwriters engage more closely with their current and prospective clients. The senior editor for research will have a close and highly collaborative relationship with the vice president and editorial director of CFO Research, and will draw on his/her experience in working with CFO Publishing’s clientele and in conducting high-quality research and publishing programs among finance executives.

Candidates must have a fundamental sense of curiosity about management and corporate finance; a strong commitment to client service; and the ability to negotiate complex sets of responsibilities, personalities, and interests to achieve excellent outcomes for project underwriters and for CFO Publishing’s audience of senior finance executives.
