Job Requirements The 451 Group seeks a finance-savvy and outgoing researcher to gather and analyze data and information related to mergers and acquisitions and funding activity for information technology companies. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated person with a passion for technology and finance to deepen his or her knowledge of finance and of some of the most exciting and fast-growing technology startups in the IT industry.

The researcher would be responsible for gathering financial and business information via meetings, telephone interviews and online research, and writing pithy and insightful summaries of transactions and companies for an audience of finance professionals and executives. The researcher would also be able to consult with many of our 100+ industry analysts to deepen insight on specific companies and sectors, and would be expected to spend time outside of the office successfully building a network with a broad range of industry contacts.

The position first and foremost requires an individual with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging in conversation with senior executives or financial professionals and skilled at eliciting insights from those executives. The candidate must also have a solid grounding in or strong desire to learn about finance, specifically a thorough understanding of all public-company financial statements (balance sheet, cash-flow statement, P&L) along with familiarity with the capital structure at private companies.

The candidate must also be a highly organized and resourceful online researcher, using the skills of an investigative reporter to obtain and synthesize information from multiple sources, while paying meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. And finally, the applicant should have a proven ability to write clear and compelling analysis.

Summary of Requirements:
- A high level of interest in, and curiosity about, the tech sector
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Finance, Economics or Accounting
- Solid understanding of finance
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Creative and resourceful researcher
- Highly organized, with meticulous attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of the IT industry
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.

Highly Desirable:
- Thorough understanding of public-company financial statements
- Familiarity with private-company capital structures
- In-depth knowledge of the IT industry or a segment within IT
- Existing network of contacts among VCs, bankers, technology executives
- Experience in M&A or VC research.
