Job Requirements Summary of Position
Manages publicity outreach for National Geographic Travel franchise, National Geographic Kids and Family franchise and National Geographic News. With director, strategize PR campaigns and manage execution. Responsibilities include managing publicity campaigns and events, developing creative pitch tactics, constructing targeted media lists, writing press materials (releases, pitches, bios), spreading information on social media outlets for assigned clients, and highlighting key media results. Develops, manages and maintains relationships with influential members of the media and digital influencers. Provides media counsel to executives regarding how to obtain targeted media results. Co-manages communications intern program.

Responsibilities
Manages day-to-day media and publicity efforts for National Geographic Kids and Family franchise, including developing pitches, making media placements, maintaining relationships with key reporters and influencers, managing events, training kid reporters, managing blogger community, recommending strategic posts across NGK social platforms, and keeping executives apprised of media results.

Manages day-to-day media and publicity efforts for National Geographic Travel franchise, incuding developing and executing pitches, making media placements, maintaining relationships with key reporters and influencers, providing counsel on and managing interactions with media influencers on travel social platforms and keeping executives apprised of media results.

Oversees publicity efforts and coordinates media outreach involving all NG photography contests. Serves as a primary point of contact with photography-focused media. Participates in communications team efforts concerning photography-focused publicity.

Manages publicity efforts for NG News one day a week. Develops and implements media outreach based on daily news stories. Provides media counsel to NG News team, serves as a point of contact for media outreach on a rotating basis, keeps Communications news team, News team and key executives apprised of breaking news and key results as appropriate.

Contributes tweets to @NatGeoPR for assigned clients. Coordinates with Kids social media team to post Kids and Family news on @NGKids Twitter feed and NGKids Facebook page. Coordinates with Travel social media team to ensure media influencers are properly engaged on all social platforms.

Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in communications. 3-5 years of experience pitching a variety of media outlets and securing meaningful results on behalf of clients. Extensive knowledge of social media platforms.

A minimum of three to five years experience in public relations required, preferably with a PR agency. Experience working as a consumer publicist in digital media helpful. Must have experience developing pitch strategies, preparing media lists, successfully pitching broadcast, print and digital media outlets and preparing comprehensive media results reports. Must have a strong background in social media. Knowledge of Vocus/Cision media database desirable.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Excellent judgement, knowledge of print, digital and social media outlets, and the ability to maintain personal contacts in each. Strong writing and presentation skills, including a mastery of AP Style guidelines. Capacity to work with minimal daily supervision is necessary, as is the ability to exercise strong independent judgement.
