• Excellent web research and news curation skills (experience gathering education-related news would be ideal)
• Proven ability to write short, engaging blog-style news articles for teen audience and educator audience
• Proven ability to drive social-media campaign aimed at teens
• Genuinely understands present-day teen culture (what works and what doesn’t work when engaging this audience)
• Ability to write to match established editorial tone/voice
• Strong ability to find compelling photos (and do very light editing to them as needed)
• True familiarity with current social media culture and trends
• Ability to both plan ahead editorially and react quickly to immediate news as needed
• Any background/experience in education (especially college-readiness) a definite plus
• Ability to follow client-mandated guidelines for social-media interaction
• Ability to self-manage and meet all deadlines
• Strong grammar skills (familiarity with MLA writing style guide a plus)

About Our Company The Web Writer/Social Media Manager will create news stories for an educational/ college-readiness website—researching and writing stories in an established editorial voice that appeal to a teen audience and stories that speak to an educator audience. He/she will also craft and manage the social distribution of these stories (and other regular communication) through the project’s teen-focused social community.

This role will call for an estimated 20 hours of work per week on an ongoing basis. The hours will be largely flexible (and done remotely), but specific requirements will need to be met regularly each week.

Responsibilities
• Research, write and publish (via custom CMS) topic-appropriate news stories for students and educators each week
• Write daily Facebook and Twitter posts for student (teen) audience
• Find images (and resize as necessary) to go with news stories and social media posts
• Manage social media presence (recommend followers, respond to followers as necessary/appropriate, post on relevant blogs, seed content as needed, prepare monthly analytics reports)
• Develop/write monthly newsletter for educators
• Collaborate with project management team (editor/producer, marketing director, project manager) as requested
• Assist in crafting editorial calendar (one-time project)
