Job Requirements Position Summary

Reporting to the News and Editorial Director, the Senior Editorial Manager handles editorial production for Pratt periodicals and for all of the Institute’s key publications ensuring high quality content and alignment with strategic messages.

Position Duties

Serve as managing editor for Institute’s monthly online newsletter, Gateway, and monthly email events newsletter, You’re Invited, by working closely with news and editorial team to determine content, schedules, audience, and distribution methods
Write stories and work with multimedia team to produce videos that promote Pratt’s key messages and align with key goals
Regularly interview faculty, students, and alumni for written profiles and stories
Work closely with media relations and social media managers on strategic content development and distribution for internal and external publications
Draft copy for all institutional publications as needed working with clientele across campus and with the Institute’s design and production team to implement new brand identity.
Manage a full-time copy editor. Copy Edit as needed.
Manage a full-time web content manager responsible for web content on pratt.edu. Work closely with web content manager developing schedules, systems, as well as soliciting content, editing, writing, and updating posts and pages.
Hire and manage freelance writers, proofreaders, and indexers as needed
Maintain a comprehensive editorial style guide for the Institute
Prepare talking points for administrators, staff, and faculty for various public events as needed
Line edit copy for Prattfolio, the magazine of Pratt Institute. Serve as a contributing writer as schedule permits.
Provide a variety of writing assistance as needed and perform all other related duties as assigned
Regularly assess results using analytics and other techniques to measure progress and success of publications
Conduct annual performance review for reporting staff.

Salary

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred; 5-7 years relevant experience required at an institution of higher education or a non-profit cultural institution

Must be an expert in spelling and grammar with an extraordinary grasp of the English language, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a diplomatic attitude, and the ability to make strategic and sound decisions.

Must possess strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities to be able to produce under tight deadlines with attention to detail.

Must have experience in print and electronic publishing and ability to adapt copy from print for Web audiences.
