Job Requirements The instructional designer is responsible for creating e-learning material for Toastmasters International. Working with in-house instructional writers, the instructional designer will determine project needs and help define the appropriate delivery methods for content that is relevant, current, engaging and meets the project objectives. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team in a high-functioning, fast-paced environment.


* Develop and maintain district and club leader online training

* Partner with Human Resources to develop and maintain internal online training

* Work with subject matter experts to identify members' learning needs

* Formulate learning objectives for materials and design accordingly

* Work with the educational development/training teams to structure content and identify possible interactive learning activities for members

* Liaise with content development vendor to ensure content matches Toastmasters learning objectives

* Collaborate with graphic designers and other colleagues, managers and executives

* Develop assessments to assist in the tracking of members' educational and training progress

* Complete additional tasks as assigned by management

Knowledge and Skills

* Expertise in adult learning theory and practice

* Knowledge of instructional design and development software tools and methodologies

* Knowledge of learning management systems

* Thorough understanding of e-learning standards (i.e., SCORM/AICC)

* Strong problem-solving skills

* Outstanding interpersonal communication skills

* Knowledge of audio and video production

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

* Ability to manage multiple project with tight deadlines

* Ability to follow project plans and adhere to all deliverables and deadlines

* Expert-level in the use of mainstream content authoring software (i.e., Articulate, Flash, Captivate), graphic design software (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator) and mobile platforms (i.e., iOS, Android)


* Bachelor's degree in instructional design or related experience

* Experience teaching or training adult learners is desirable

* Experience collaborating with vendors on the creation of learning materials

* Experience working with learning management systems

* Three to five years of experience in instructional design or e-learning curriculum development

The Educational Development manager leads a team of instructional writers to ensure that materials are accurate, up-to-date, and available when members need them.

The Educational Development manager oversees the pre-production and maintenance of educational products, including writing, editing, proofreading, and revising as needed. The manager must be detail-oriented, an excellent writer, and have the ability to monitor progress on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet deadlines.
