Job Requirements ESSENCE Festival — the nation's largest annual gathering focused on African-American music, entertainment, community and culture — is seeking an experienced digital editor to curate and manage its desktop and mobile websites for 2014. The ideal candidate will bring to the table creative ideas and solutions for the festival, talent and its sponsors combined with the editorial skills to make content feel organic, fresh, and social for users.

Although the site provides a service to festival-goers, giving them information on everything from stage schedules to hotels to tickets, the goal is to make ESSENCEFestival.com a site that draws attention and repeat visits with fun content about our performers and speakers, photos and video drawing from our archives, and social conversations among fans who are passionate about this one-of-a-kind annual experience in New Orleans. Success = increased traffic, deeper user engagement, and ticket sales.

The Live Events department manages the execution of the ESSENCE FestivalTM and other festival brand extensions in digital, video, television, social, retail, charitable initiatives and more. The Live Events team also launches new live event franchises.

This position is a project role reporting to the General Manager, Essence Live Events and the Deputy Managing Editor of Essence. To cross-pollinate content, the role will work in close collaboration with the Managing Editor of Essence.com as well as the entertainment editors of ESSENCE Magazine and Essence.com.

Responsibilities include:
•Guide editorial voice and tone of EssenceFestival.com.
•Strengthen brand's reach with its core audience.
•Strategize and guide new initiatives and digital product development.
•Oversee all content published on EssenceFestival.com maintaining an up-to-date editorial calendar of festival-related content.
•Programming and constantly updating the homepage, artist and speaker pages, paying close attention to visuals and display copy and highlighting the right content at the right time.
•Write and produce a number of posts each day – from concept to execution.
•Coordinate with Photo and Video department to gather assets and make smart use of archival assets, including photography and video from past festivals.
•Drive the collection and curation of content assets for artists, speakers and celebrities appearing at the Essence Festival — conducting Q&As, getting video interviews and soundbites, exclusive music releases, exclusive photos and videos, playlists etc.
•Create deep synergies between all levels of the brand's editorial teams to integrate content and drive the Festival conversation across all channels.
•Help to direct the social media and video strategy to enhance consumer engagement and deliver sales and marketing goals.
•Working closely with the promotions and PR teams to roll out festival news and talent announcements.
• Working with the ESSENCE.com digital marketing and sponsorship teams, plus the project manager, to launch sponsored digital elements (including contests/sweepstakes, marketing video, and more).

•5+ years writing and editing for a daily consumer celebrity, entertainment or Festival site.
•Encyclopedic knowledge of pop culture, music and celebrity style with industry connections and contacts to match.
•Previous work experience with talent and their digital campaigns is a plus.
•Decisive editor who can work quickly and efficiently.
•Collaborative contributor with a sense of team diplomacy.
•Can keep many balls juggling in air while prioritizing quickly.
•Savvy, clean, smart writing style, with the ability to self-copy edit and fact-check.

This is a project position that runs from December 2013- September 2014.
