Job Requirements The Chapin School seeks an individual with at least 3-5 years of experience to fill the position of Communications Coordinator in the Communications Department. The primary responsibilities of this full-time position consist of creating editorial and visual content for Chapinís website, publications and marketing materials. The position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

The individual we seek must be an excellent writer, be extremely organized, and able to work in the fast-paced environment of an independent K-12 all girlsí school.

Writing/Content Duties
  • Writing weekly news items covering each division (Lower, Middle and Upper School) for Chapinís website.

  • Writing articles for Chapin Today, the Schoolís quarterly newsletter.

  • Contributing to and assisting with the writing and editing of all other Chapin publications, marketing materials, and documents to support fundraising initiatives, such as donor reports, grant proposals, letters, emails and other official correspondence.

  • Writing case studies illustrating the implementation of Chapinís strategic plan initiatives.

  • Compiling and editing faculty bios for the website.

  • Working with the Communications Director to develop and conceive of story ideas.

  • Editing/Proofreading Duties
  • Editing drafts (letters, articles, proposals, etc.) from various departments around the

  • Proofreading all Chapin materials and web content.

  • Website duties
  • Partnering weekly with Web Team to ensure updates are made to the site.

  • Refreshing website two to three times a year by selecting and sizing photographs to be used in banners.

  • Coordinating with contractors, such as video crews, to produce new content for the website.

  • Serving as project manager for website migration to Responsive Design.

  • Administrative Duties
  • Working with Communications Director to organize and maintain the Communications calendar.

  • Providing staffing support, when necessary, for Advancement Office events held during the day and some evenings.

  • Photography Duties
  • Photographing subjects, classes and trips to accompany weekly stories for Chapinís website and for Chapin Today, Chapinís newsletter.

  • Event photography: photographing school/Advancement Office events held during the day and some evenings.

  • Maintaining Chapinís photo database.

  • Required/Desired Skills
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills required.

  • Strong familiarity with AP Style preferred.

  • Ability to write quickly and in a range of styles for different end uses (talking points, newsletter stories and grant proposals, etc.) required.

  • Journalism or Public Relations (agency or in-house) experience a plus.

  • Must be extremely organized and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to work effectively with individuals of all ages and at all levels.

  • Facility with using web content management systems (Chapinís web host is Finalsite).

  • Experience taking event/portrait/candid photographs and ability to manage a photo database.
