Job Requirements Overview/Purpose

WIRED is looking for a seasoned, eagle-eyed copy editor and all-around word nerd to work full-time in our San Francisco office. Duties will focus primarily on the magazine and tablet platforms.

Primary Responsibilities

• Copyediting and proofreading magazine text for grammar, consistency, accuracy, sense, and readability.
• Meeting daily deadlines by shepherding copy through the production process from draft to final proof.
• Inputting text edits into InCopy and InDesign.
• Ensuring that tablet pages are correctly formatted and typo-free.
• Communicating directly with assigning editors, designers, fact-checkers, and production to implement text changes to layouts.
• Prioritizing special issues and ebook publications as necessary.

Desired Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
• At least four years of copyediting experience (preferably at a monthly or weekly publication, as meeting deadlines is crucial)
• A passion for grammar and punctuation and a working knowledge of Chicago style
• Proficiency in both InCopy and InDesign
• The following characteristics: meticulous, detail-oriented, communicative, and organized, with an interest in current technology and pop culture
• Multitasking and prioritization skills.
