Managing Editor : Under general supervision, the purpose of the Managing Editor position is; to perform a variety of editorial duties including managing the editorial flow of the magazine, networking with correspondents, writing feature stories and updating the website. The managing editor also performs clerical duties such as contract and payment processing, photo handling and returning. Must be highly organized, a skilled writer and able to courteously and helpfully assist customers, vendors and any individuals contacting the company.
* Establish yourself as nerve center for magazine and website
* Know status of all assignments
* Establish regular correspondence with contributors
* Familiarize yourself with all aspects of production so as to track the edit through the system.
* Maintain and update the Web site on a timely basis per a pre-determined plan.
* Stay on schedule, and ensure ship dates are met.
* Help editor develop annual editorial plan and budget for print, Internet and ancillary products.
* Adhere to editorial plan, vision, and budget.
* Develop efficient workflow system between edit, art and ad staff.
* Create and maintain contracts for contributors.
* Pay all contributors in a timely manner.
* Establish systems for annual editorial/internet plans
* Establish guidelines and follow them for handling correspondence,
* Clearly establish due dates
* Break down the process into manageable pieces with interim due dates
* Establish regular meetings with staff
* Establish systems to ensure product integrity
* Regular pre-issue meetings or emails to all ad, edit and art staff
* Regular report card meetings
* Regular budget check up
* Adhere to fact checking policies
* Quickly correct any errors
* Answer all correspondence
* Establish consistent and regular communication with participants, contributors, industry and dealers.
Requirements / Qualifications
Bachelor degree, ideally in Journalism.
Must be extremely well organized and detail oriented.
Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must be proactive and excel in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
Must have excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
