Reporting to the editor-in-chief, the reporter/researcher position handles duties in two main areas-- performing administrative duties for the editor as well as researching and fact checking stories. As part of the research role, the reporter/researcher covers assigned beat(s), researches, reports and develops story ideas, writes pieces pertaining to the approved pitches, writes assignments requested by the editor, and fact checks his/her own pieces and other pieces assigned for the magazine. The reporter/researcher also handles administrative work, such as scheduling meetings; handling calls from readers, contributors, and vendors; acting as the liaison with other departments.
Candidates should have some administrative experience; one year of experience as a reporter/fact checker/researcher is highly desirable. They must document potentially excellent creative and technical writing skills; good research and reporting skills. Analytical, organizational and communication skills are equally important.
