Position Description and Objectives:
The DC Project Manager acts as the liaison between the Decision Counsel teams working on multiple projects simultaneously over a given time period and the client. The DC PM oversees the DC Project Management Process - often balancing clients’ needs and wishes with the recommendations of the DC team. The PM learns the client’s business, their needs and goals to grow their brands, and the strategy for how to accomplish that. The project schedules range from a couple of days to six months.
A DC PM often is managing 7 – 10 clients and 10 -20 projects at a time, taking care of some of the PM related tasks herself/himself, and monitoring the progress of the deliverables from client and the DC Design and Development teams. Most of the time that a DC PM spends are on current projects although some is on projects that we are scoping for a client to help them choose how to utilize DC.
The primary objective of the PM position is to manage the projects such that they hit the DC Four Project Goals (see below) on every project. A DC PM who is detail and process oriented, able to get along with a variety of people (sometimes under a challenging deadline), has the power of influence and leadership, can juggle several deliverables during a given day, and who understands the strategic value of digital branding is highly valued at DC.
Responsibilities:
The DC Project Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with client strategy, requirements and goals. She/he leads the client facing aspects of the project including scheduling, communicating deadlines, deliverables, etc.
The DC Project Manager uses the DC Project Process and the basecamp project management system to make sure projects result in successful completion of the DC Four Project Goals:
1. Quality work that is on strategy, creative, and innovative within the guidelines/restraints that have been imposed upon on us
2. Satisfied (if not delighted) client who has increased trust in DC to deliver good service
3. Satisfied and proud DC project team
4. The project made the budgeted profit
If we hit all four of these measures then we have been fully successful on the project.
Specifically, the PM is responsible for:
• Serving as the singular point of contact for projects, except for those elements or projects that are “Strategy” projects (i.e. marketing strategy, product strategy, and positioning and messaging). The PM is the primary liaison between clients and the DC Business Development, Design, and Development departments.
• Working with the Business Development department on new projects to:
o Lead the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables
o Identify client stakeholders for this project
o Define stakeholders needs and expectations
o Prioritize demands
o Establish clear set of project goals
o Determine type, quantity and quality of resources required
o Define project tasks and resource requirements
o Sequence activities to meet delivery dates
o Produce a projected Timeline and then detailed project Schedule
o Gather budgeted DC Team hours, produce project Budget, send to Biz Dev/ Sales for Pricing
• Overseeing the creation of the Statement of Work (SoW), writing the Development portion of the SoW as well as the PM portion of the SoW.
• Working with the Design and Development leaders to assemble and coordinate project Team
• Leading the execution of the DC project Team, and influencing the client project team members
• Overseeing the progress of the work from the project Team and regularly communicate the status of the project’s work in progress, deliverables, milestones, and owners to the DC and client project teams
• Developing a sitemap for each web design project based on client provided taxonomy
• Monitoring the hours expended and inform the project Team of variances
• Providing direction and support to the project team
