Job Requirements Northstar is currently seeking a Business Development Director for Meetings & Conventions. Specifically targeted to the full-time, strategic meetings manager, M&C’s monthly print magazine, website, e-newsletters, blogs and other products all take an enterprise-wide approach to the responsibilities of selecting key supplier partners, writing and enforcing smart policies and procedures, enlisting support of the C-suite, proving return on investment and much more. The ideal candidate has 5-7 years’ experience in advertising sales with a focus on media/print/marketing including demonstrated success in interactive, online media sales. You must be passionate, forward-thinking, and a “hunter,” who can source and close new business in addition to servicing existing customers.

Candidates must live within the sales territory of the northern east coast, ideally in the NY/NJ metro area. Overnight travel is expected 30%+ of the time.

Responsibilities:
• Generates and maintains sales activities to ensure that personal quota and corporate objectives are met.
• Gathers, monitors and evaluates competitive information and impact on sales goals.
• Prospect and develop new sales opportunities from new customers.
• Maintains and complete all relevant account records.
• Maintain and complete all management forms and reports in a timely fashion.
• Responsible for operating within expense budget, and proper documentation of expenses.
• Coordinates advertising strategies and schedules with service groups, i.e. editorial, art and design, production, manufacturing
• Solves as necessary problems arising with clients, editorial staff, support staff and outside forces such as competitors.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• 5-7 years related work experience in advertising sales with a focus on media/print/marketing is required. General knowledge of the travel industry is a plus.
• Interactive, online media sales experience and demonstrated success.
• College degree required.
• Sales skills, communication skills (oral and written), presentation skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, self discipline, good judgment.
• Computer skills include proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well as Salesforce.com or other contact management software.
• Must have ability to deal multitask successfully.
• Overnight travel is required 30%-40% of the time and approximately 500 miles of driving per month.
