Barack Obama’s Special Coffee Blend

Advertising executive, Bruce Jed, takes inspiration seriously. After 9/11, he was inspired to follow his dreams and open a coffee shop, Longfellows in New Jersey. Barack Obama’s run for president has motivated him yet again. Jed has created the Obama blend. Yeah. This is what happens to campaign junkies, those people who can’t live without the rush of the race.

It’s not cheap either with 12-ounce package costing you $16.25 plus shipping. See? All liberals are elitists.

Round-Up: Ad Blogs Pony Up On The Election

In the last few days, many ad bloggers have written insightful commentary on the 2008 Presidential election. Here are our favorites:

From MultiCultClassics on race: “We should definitely celebrate the historic achievements, regardless of the final vote tally. However, please don’t insist minorities ought to pattern themselves after Obama. Why not request Madison Avenue reflect the general population instead? Additionally, let’s demand that the advertising industry’s ruling majority start acting like Obama too.”

From AdPulp on consumers: “Consumer marketers don’t inspire the passion or commitment that political movements do. A brand could only wish it had the type of “ground game” that the Obama campaign organized. But brands can mean something, and stand for something.”

From Make The Logo Bigger on honor: “While this was originally going to be about honor, the differences in the generations and a bunch of other stuff, it became as much about things you learn about your parents as it was anything else. Live a little and you discover things about them. While you always thought they were this great larger than life figure, over time they become more average, more human even.”

MediaVest Calls The Next Prez Of The United States

MediaVest has already predicted the winner of today’s election. The ad buyer expects the results of the win to hit the airwaves around 10pm EST with the election officially being “called for Illinois Senator Barack Obama at 11PM ET by most major news organizations.”

MediaVest came to this conclusion by analyzing
aggregated state-level polling from all the available experts along with some other mathematics. You can download the full PDF here.

Mediavest has got their rep on the line with this one. Still, Intrade also has Obama winning, as does the super number crunching site, FiveThirtyEight. Still, if you’re voting for Obama, don’t get lazy. Polling, as we all know, is a shaky science. Get out and vote, yeah?

In other news, isn’t this Cabbage Patch Sarah Palin the scariest thing you’ve ever seen?

Breaking: Starbucks Coffee PR Stunt Hits The Skids

Starbucks recently released a TV spot by BBDO offering those who vote today a free cup of coffee. Not so fast Mr. Bucks! The coffee retailer has been accused of breaking the law.

In the brand’s home state, Washington, election officials have said that rewarding voters with free coffee is illegal. They cite a federal statute that prohibits any reward for voting.

What a downer for the brand, no? Their PR company got into crisis mode and now, Starbucks will only give that free cup of Joe to those ask. Tara Darrow of Starbucks has said:

“We’ve been excited by the number of positive responses received about our free coffee offer. To ensure we are in compliance with election law, we are extending our offer to all customers who request a tall brewed coffee. We’re pleased to honor our commitment to communities on this important Election Day. We hope there is a record turnout on Tuesday and look forward to celebrating with our customers over a great cup of coffee.”

Election day is so not fun. First of all, it should be on a weekend. Second of all, where’s my free shit? Maybe we should have all voted for Ron Paul. He would be all over this in that cranky, but adorable government-get-out-of-biznass kind of way that he has.

So, a bunch of celebrities decided to use their mind control powers and incredible acting skills to persuade you to vote. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but… please listen to Tom Cruise, Justin Timberlake, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Snoop Dogg, that guy who married Scarlett Johansson, Harrison Ford, plus some other people and make sure you cast your ballot.
An Internal PSA For Ogilvy

Shelly Lazarus wants her staffers to know that they need to vote. Yes, voting is a good thing, but internal PSA’s? Not such a good thing. You know all the employees at Ogilvy are going to vote and be out of the office for the entire afternoon. “Sorry! The voting line was like, so super long.” I can hear it now and good for them. Ogilvy works their employees to the bare bone.

On a side note, why oh why isn’t election day on a weekend? It should be held on a weekend. Sometimes, America is just back-asswards.

The Political Bubble Will Burst; Media Spend Will Burn Baby Burn

Ugh. Ack. Blech. More reality comes your way by NYT columnist David Carr this morning:

“In the last presidential election cycle, all political advertising spending was about $1.7 billion. This year it will be $2.5 billion, according to current estimates. The bullish year in broadcast political bull has served as something of a Band-Aid on a hemorrhaging ad market. Pulling that bandage off on Nov. 5 is going to hurt.”

Automotive is the crapper. Financial ads? Forget about it. And soon, the attack ads, 30 minute spends and all that jazz will be (sniff, sniff) vapor. So, what happens when the political gravy train runs dry for local TV networks and those big ones, too? The ad spend… dear gawd.

The Cricket Club/AB5TRAX on Obama ’08

Thanks to the interwebs and YouTubes, we can all stump for, well, anything we want. The video you see above is an example of what you’d call…opining at its smartest. The Cricket Club of New York and LA based AB5TRAX (who have been sharing with us their opinions on the upcoming presidential election for awhile now) are responsible, and kudos we say to them, for participating in such a proactive way. You may recall the myriad bumper stickers we showed you in early September, for example.

Anywho, the video is their latest opinion-gone-viral, and according to TCC’s Roald van Wyk (a South African dude who can’t even vote, but is awesome for participating anyway), the idea was to remind people that the Iraq war is still going on &#151 and that if Sen. John McCain is elected, it will for another 100 years.

Check out what’s more, after the jump.
