Coca-Cola Claims Ad Similarities Are “Unintended, Coincidental”

Wieden + Kennedy created a Super Bowl spot for Coca-Cola that ran during the third quarter of the game. Earlier this week another ad that looks surprisingly similar to Coke’s was discovered, and since then the news has been spreading around the Web. What wasn’t known, until now, is whether or not Coke was aware of the Yotvata ad from 2001.

“When we created the Coca-Cola ‘Sleepwalker’ commercial we and our agency were unaware of this other ad,” Coca-Cola representative Susan Stribling wrote in an email. “Now that we’ve seen the ad, we think both commercials are equally entertaining. While the two share a few common elements, any similarities are coincidental and unintended.”

The original ad for Yotvata is from Y&R Tel Aviv. To see the ad, click here.
