Ad Students Want to Shave Your Chest, Claim It’s for ‘Charity’

For those who don’t know, the practice of “manscaping” consists of men cutting elaborate designs and illustrations into their chest hair. If you’re a guy with chest hair who’s heard about this growing trend, you’ve no doubt considered what would look best shaved onto your torso. Maybe the Batman logo? Maybe a map of Middle Earth? Truly, it’s a fun thing to think about.

Two young female ad students, Liz Haagensen and Clare Prowse, are keenly aware of dudes’ secret desire to pretty-up their manpelt. So they asked their guy-friend, Matthew Shotwell, to over up is chest as a practice-palette for the highest bidder in an eBay auction for charity. Now, men can use Shotwell’s body to see how their own design looks on another human being, with all money spent going toward creating a Manscaping documentary which will support the nationwide “Movember” movement to help end prostate and testicular cancer.

Those among you who lack an imagination can visit the Manscaping Facebook page for ideas on what you can shave into your upper-level short and curlys. Personally, I’m hoping for a highly detailed hair portrait of Aaron Rodgers.

Whittier Leaving R/GA

We’ve received confirmation that after just 11 months into his role as group executive creative director on the Nike account, among others, at R/GA, Steve Whittier is leaving the “agency for the digital age.” No further details have been provided, but during his brief stint at R/GA, Whittier also worked on Nike-owned Converse, Verizon and new business. The creative exec joined R/GA from Y&R, where he spent 18 months as North American integrated CD and worked on the Airwalk as well as the global Land Rover launch. We’ll keep you posted if and when we hear more on his last day, next venture, etc.

Clemans Out at Taxi NY

Well, a phone call to Taxi New York has confirmed that Dave Clemans, who joined the agency 15 months ago as executive creative director, is no longer with the agency. Word on the Spy line is that the Clemans was let go by Taxi NY this week. Clemans joined WPP-owned Taxi from CHI & Partners’ New York office, where he spent two-and-a-half years and served as ECD for clients including Best Buy, Samsung and Virgin.

During his career, Clemans had two stints at CP+B, leading creative on projects for VW including “Safe Happens” and playing a role in campaigns for Burger King and VW. While at Taxi, he led creative on work for Applegate and MiO.

Let’s Spend the Day with Jay Cutler-Crushing Ndamukong Suh, Shall We?

Considering the huge lines and hype surrounding the Nike+FuelBand at this year’s SXSWi, we surprisingly haven’t seen too many folks sporting it since. Whatever the case, it’s a nifty little tool and it’s got a fan in Ndamukong Suh, the Detroit Lions defensive tackle who scared the shit out of the entire Chicago Bears nation for a minute on Monday night when he took down QB Jay Cutler (Cutler later said the play wasn’t dirty). Anyhow, let’s take a quick minute and see how Suh spends his day with his FuelBand and the personal network app, Path, in the clip above that comes to us from Conscious Minds. Let’s just say our FuelBand numbers and goals hardly measure up.

Guy Behind ‘Romney & Me’ Lands Gig at Saatchi NY

If the name Kesal Patel doesn’t ring a bell, the techie, as mentioned above, was one of the co-conspirators behind “Romney & Me,” a fun little project from the beginning of this year that let you “Romulate” and see how your wages translate in Mitt Romney‘s world. Too bad that the site appears to be down now, but nonetheless, Patel has moved on since then and has now joined up with Saatchi & Saatchi New York as a creative technologist. From what we’ve been told, he’ll be focusing on the P&G business.

Prior to Saatchi, Patel spent a year as technical lead at BBDO New York, working across accounts including AT&T, FedEx and HBO. During his career, the new Saatchi hire also spent time on the dev/tech side at the likes of Conde Nast and ESPN.

What Do You Know, CP+B Made Leadership Changes in Europe

So, this happened and apparently under the cloak of night as we haven’t really seen this covered anywhere. But anyhow, CP+B’s Gothenburg office recently underwent some leadership changes. Lead executive Jonas Hedeback is no longer with the agency and in his place is Gustav Martner, EVP/ECD at CP+B who has also taken on the role of managing director of its Swedish branch.

Hedeback and Martner, who co-founded Daddy, which was acquired by CP+B in 2009, were appointed to the agency’s global leadership group earlier this year. But from what sources tell us, Hedeback was feeling “burnt out” from leading an office and is leaving to pursue other interests, albeit on good terms. We figured we’d fill you in since we’re hearing that he’s actually winding things down at CP+B this week. The agency’s Gothenburg quarters services clients Ubisoft, SAS and Sony Mobile. Let’s just hope word travels faster across the pond moving forward.

VSA Partners Acquires NYC Digital Shop

The embargo has lifted on this one so figured we’d kick off things with the news that VSA Partners has bought up NYC-based digital agency Tender Creative, which houses 26 staffers and works with clients ranging from Estee Lauder to the MoMA. Besides the fact that they share a client in Nike as well, VSA’s goal in acquiring Tender was to expand its digital capabilities and bolster its New York presence. VSA, which has been a roster shop for Harley-Davidson for several years, also has offices in Minneapolis and Chicago.

Regarding the move, VSA CEO Dana Arnett says in a statement, “As we continue to build and grow a best-in-class privately held agency, this is naturally an exciting moment for VSA. Tender enhances our ability to deliver fully integrated strategic and creative services that very few agencies are able to operationalize in a holistic manner. Having collaborated with Tender over the last decade, we’re looking forward to capitalizing on more opportunities.”
