Fayetville Ads Ruffle Feathers of “Fat”, “Odious” Folk Everywhere

Republik, the Durham N.C. based agency responsible for the ad above (and the one after the jump) has Fayetville’s citizenry confused and apparently, up in (flabby?) arms about the town’s new campaign. See, Fayetville is the nation’s first refuge for soldiers. Who knows what that means. But this publication and that publication have written stories about the matter and now it’s a thing.

Anyway, flabbergasted is a word that was invented for things like this. I’m not sure if that’s the proper thing to say to describe my feelings, but confused definitely fits.

Update: A spy has informed us that the Fayetteville Observer has done somewhat of an about face with the campaign, saying “Based on the reaction we’re seeing… it appears that [the target audience]… gets the humor. So we’ll just take off our critic hat and leave that job to the audience.” You can read the full column here.
