Fine Print: AmEx Will Call Your Cell, You’ll Be Charged

AMEX Green Card _Prop_A4.jpg

And here we thought no one reads the fine print anymore. First we had Facebook’s wonky Terms of Service and now American Express has changed some legal copy to allows them to call and text your (cell) phone for things like AmEx marketing measures.

Not the end of the world, to be sure, but it’s certainly a sneaky way get around that old “Do Not Call” list, no? Here’s an image of the copy, but the meat of it says,

“You authorize us to call or send a text message to you at any number you give us or from which you call us, including mobile phones. You authorize us to make such calls using automated telephone dialing systems for any lawful purpose including but not limited to…offers of American Express products or services…”

As the Consumerist points out, AmEx does not offer any opt-out information on the notice. But in case you want to, call this number: 800-297-8378.
