Google Ends Quest for Yahoo/Ad Deal

Just days after submitting a revised agreement to the Department of Justice, Google pulled out of a proposal to sell ads on Yahoo! (and partner) pages in the US and Canada, reports WIRED.

Citing what would amount to another year of dealing with the DoJ, Google made the decision to pull out alone.

“‘Yahoo! continues to believe in the benefits of the agreement and is disappointed that Google has elected to withdraw from the agreement rather than defend it in court,’ it said in a statement.”

Interestingly, after proposing of the aforementioned revised plan, David Drummond, senior vice president of corporate development and chief legal officer, said;

“We’re not going to let the prospect of a lengthy legal battle distract us from our core mission. That would be like trying to drive down the road of innovation with the parking brake on.”
