Mocking Site, Slap-Happy Customers Not Doing Wal-Mart Any Favors

walmart1.jpg

In the few weeks since it’s launched, the People of Walmart site has served as a continually updated reminder of why the uber-chain is an air-conditioned nightmare by showing off unflattering, user-contributed photos of Wal-Mart customers from all over the US.

Created by 20-something bros Andrew and Adam Kipple along with friend Luke Wherry, the site mostly houses pics that CNN.com claims are of “overweight people wearing tight clothes, bizarre hairstyles (with versions of the short-in-front, long-in-back ‘mullet’ leading the pack) and fashion crimes ranging from furry leg warmers to miniskirts that leave absolutely nothing to the imagination.”

While Wal-Mart has yet to officially comment on the POWM site, their customers–pics aside–aren’t making matters easier as a 61-year-old Georgia man slapped a 2-year-old four times last Monday in a Wal-Mart location after warning her mother, “If you don’t shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you.” Yikes.

With abusive customers in the aisles and less-than-attractive customers appearing online, many feel that Wal-Mart is hurting from the PR nightmare. ABC News even wonders if it will affect sales. Whatever the case, it makes feel even better for shopping at Target.
