MotherMatch.com Picks Mother for UK Work
While Campbell-Ewald was bestowed the Match.com account Stateside, Brand Republic is reporting that Mother London will be handling all UK advertising for the brand. According to the report, Mother, who beat out VCCP, BBH, Fallon, Adam & Eve and DDB for the 6 million pound account, will produce a through the line campaign that's set to launch early next year. More: "Mother Co-Founder Retires, Again" Mother Co-founder Retires, AgainIn 2003, Rob DeFlorio, strategist Andrew Deitchman and cds Paul Malmstrom and Linus Karlsson launched the agency you know as Mother. Six years later, DeFlorio is retiring "to pursue personal interests" for the second time. "I have been in this business for a long time, both on the client and agency side," said DeFlorio in an emailed statement. "It has been rewarding in so many ways. I feel the time is right to move out and move on. I've begun the process of unplugging from the day-to-day world of business and marketing in order to focus all my energy on my personal life. It's something I really want to do." DeFlorio's first retirement came just before his decision to (co) create Mother and just after an 11 year stay at Nike. No word regarding his status with the company, meaning we don't know if he was bought out or if he still maintains partial ownership. Mother's co-creator will apparently spend time being a father. DeFlorio is said to be planning to spend time with his one year-old daughter and playing outside a bunch. Have fun, dude. Wrong pic. Sorry Rob. Mother New York Welcomes Eugene Fuller to the Fold
While we'd normally hesitate to post a copywriter hire as a standalone item, we were sold thanks to Eugene Fuller's happy, low-key headshot, which is a nice change from the dolled-up glamour shots of agency folks that we're accustomed to. Anyhoo, Fuller is the latest creative to join Mother New York where he will work on New Balance, Dell and Target among other clients. He honed his writing chops early on at Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis before making his way to New York where he landed at Publicis and Ogilvy along the way. Prior to Mother, though, Fuller also had a stint at Crispin in Miami where he was involved with Dominos, VW, Coke Zero and such. The CBC Logo is So Hot Right Now
Well, at least Cristiana Couceiro seems to think so. The Canadian Design Resource points us to what looks like a portfolio piece (above) done by the graphic artist back in March that includes the citrus-y CBC logo. It seems Couceiro has taken a liking to the CBC design, which was actually the handiwork of Burton Kramer back in the '70s. She's now co-opted it for a new Stella outdoor effort for Mother London (example below) that's been appearing throughout London tube stations.
Certainly not the worst offense we've seen when it comes to lifting an idea/logo/etc. But like the CDR, we too find it ironic that the Stella tagline is "Recyclage De Luxe." Maybe Mother was just being extra cautious with a campaign where there's recycling all around. More: "It's OK to Borrow an Idea When"
Mother New York Made Some Magnets
Mother New York and BlueQ Have made some magnets. We posted the others after the jump. Hey Mother, how's it going with that Dell TV work? Did that end in December as it was "supposed to"? Mother Writes Pretty Poetry (copy) for CNNMother NY took the big job of writing heady copy for CNN and turned it into a poster or banner or something.
See the rest of the love-letter, after the jump. From Whence Came This Dell Ad?Though they have been Dell's maker-of-TV-work, sources inside Mother tell us the above ad did not originate from within their walls, (as you'll recall) the New York "matriarch" is acting as Dell's TV work-horse, through December. George Parker seems to think the ad belongs to Enfatico, but we aren't convinced. With WPP in a hiring freeze, we aren't sure Enfatico has the staff to complete TV yet (this isn't to say they don't, but we haven't heard otherwise). Though according to a source, the environment inside Enfatico's Austin shop is very...active/busy/hectic. Makes us wonder if they too suffer from a lack of staff (like Mindshare), and therefore have employees doing the work of three. An insider at the WPP shop tells us they don't think the above spot is Enfatico's work. Then, could it be from Schematic? Not likely, because (last we heard) they have been doing Enfatico's interactive work, and reportedly almost pulled out of the agency completely a little while back. So who's responsible for it? And more importantly, what do you think of it? We're dying to know your thoughts. New Balance Selects Mother New York
New Balance has tapped Mother New York to lead their creative duties on their Lifestyle brand. New Balance employs more than 4000 people worldwide and in 2007 reported worldwide sales of $1.63 billion. Mother is charged with showing off the work of two new creative directors, Savania Davies-Keiller and Roberto Crivello of DDCLAB. If you recall, BBDO has won is the brand's AOR since 2007. Linus Karlsson and Paul Malmstrom, partners at Mother said the usual PR drivel: "Consumers can expect to see compelling New Balance Lifestyle products and compelling New Balance Lifestyle consumer experiences." Mother UK Wins Stella's Weaker Brew
We've confirmed with Mother UK reps that the matriarchal agency has won a Stella Artois project for InBev, over incumbent agency Lowe London. Brand Republic reports that TBWA was also involved in the review. The project is for a special brew of Stella, which only contains 4 percent alcohol by volume. Stella may be tasty, but it's no chocolate malt. Less alcohol means the beer isn't brewed as long, which results in a different flavor. Stella light? Mother's Dell Work Soldiers OnHey Mother folks, you seem to be the only agency still churning out work for Dell (that we could find, other than Enfatico, which doesn't count). What's the deal? We, along with many others, are at a loss. The who, what, where, when, why and how of the continuing Dell/Enfatico saga continue to boggle the mind. An Austin based Enfatico is currently up and running, and is apparently churning out print and interactive stuff. Couldn't they have left the interactive at T3? Nevertheless, we hear Mother New York is still producing work for Dell. Well, at least according to Brent Terrazas Sneaky buggers. I'm told that, as I mentioned, T3 is no longer on the Dell payroll, and neither are a number of other shops that will always be better than Enfatico could hope to be. Nonetheless, with Enfatico Austin (that's what I'm calling it) providing said print and interactive and Mother working some TV stuff, Dell can keep up the facade that their media structure is...structured, and in place.
