New Nine West Campaign Has Many Stomping Their Feet

With so much buzz surrounding Under Armour’s latest Droga5 campaign featuring ballerina Misty Copeland, Lindsey Vonn and other noted badassses chanting  the rallying cry of “I will what I want”, Nine West’s Fall campaign presents a particularly striking contrast.

In one corner, Under Armour tries to lure Lululemon fans with a  ”be whoever you want to be despite the odds” message while Nine West goes for something that doesn’t feel quite as…what’s the word…empowering.

Compelling visuals aside, the copy has left some women on our Internets scratching their heads.

For example:

Oh, and hey ladies, do you need a great shoe for those times when you just can’t stop crying (because you’re a mom)?

The campaign comes from Minneapolis agency Peterson Miller Hooks, which has worked with mass fashion heavyweights like the Gap and Target. According to Businessweek, the work is not yet finished and will feature more print and in store creative. One spot will highlight the “drunch” phenomenon in which women supposedly wear high heels to boozy lunches.

Whether or not you find the ads offensive or amusing, they’re gaining tons of buzz. The responses go two ways: women outraged at the obvious stereotyping and contrarians calling for those females to chill out and learn how to take a joke already. And yes, Jezebel readers have some opinions.

Questions: do you know any women who take their kids to school wearing heels like that when they (presumably) don’t have to go into the office afterward?

Is this campaign much ado about nothing or reason to shop elsewhere?
