OK so the mystery of the strange tips seems to be solved. As we noted yesterday, lately we've received a number of tips containing only the names of agencies. Naturally, I over-thought the problem, but I think you all have solved it.

The anonymous tips box is on the right side of the page just below the staff listing (masthead) and above the "Topics" section. Though it's labeled "Anonymous Tips" it's easy to see how this could be confused with a search bar.

Somewhat bewilderingly, the search box is way down at the bottom right of the page, beneath the categories and archives. It's basically the last thing in the right "column", if you will. This is a good place to type in your searches.

However, here's a couple tips for searching our site that I recommend you try. (note: I rarely if ever use our search box.)

1. If you're looking for news on a particular agency, look for it on the right side of the page in the "categories" section. We have most of the major agencies listed and try to update this but let's be honest — there are a lot of agencies. We'll start adding more as time goes on to make this easier.

2. If your agency isn't listed OR it is listed but somehow the piece you're looking for isn't showing up in that category, it's probably been listed in another category. You have 2 choices here: a) check out the other categories and look for the story there or b) more preferable try the following (it's easy) — in your Google search bar (not Yahoo, Ask etc — Google) type the following (we'll use Ogilvy's new office as an example) "agencyspy Ogilvy building". This should bring up all the stories on AgencySpy relating to that topic.

This is more a lesson in search than it is in using our site, but I do this all the time and it's really effective. The more keywords you enter, the more focused your results will be. But generally, if the story you're looking for doesn't show up in the top 5 search results, you'll waste your time looking on other pages. Just try other search terms.
