Anonymous Comments To Be Made IllegalNo. Seriously. It's not April's Fools, yet. "Kentucky Representative Tim Couch filed a bill this week to make anonymous posting online illegal. The bill would require anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site. Their full name would be used anytime a comment is posted." Okay, this won't only affect us or say, Wonkette, but it will also be an issue for sites such as Wikileaks. Representative Couch says he filed the bill in hopes of cutting down on online bullying. He says that has especially been a problem in his Eastern Kentucky district. You know, but here's the thing... How does anyone know if a commentator makes up an email and snail mail address? All they need to do is create a dummy Gmail account and that's that. What? Is Gawker going to check that every postal address is a real one for every comment? It's impossible. Anyway, we'll be keeping an eye on it, but of course. [source] Email This Post |
