WSJ Names 50 Women to Watch in 2008
As 2008 nears an end and the hangover from seven years of "good economics" continues to kick our ass, the Wall Street Journal took a gander at the top women of of the last 12 months. Among them and ranking 34th (and the only 'ad' woman) is Starcom MediaVest Group's Laura Desmond, who was named chief executive of the media firm just six months ago. Way to go Laura. Though it's a bummer you couldn't double-up with AdAge's 'Women to Watch' — guess their criteria may be different than the WSJ's. Other notable mentions include Melinda Gates of...Bill Gates? Oh, right, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We tease — she does wonderful things and takes home #30. Then there's Susan Decker of Yahoo! in the dreaded #13 position and taking numero uno is Sheila Bair of...you guessed it...the FDIC. But you don't care about that.
