So, Did Critical Mass Cut Staff or Not?

We’ve received multiple tips over the last couple of days that Omnicom digital shop Critical Mass has had to cut some staff, but all we’re hearing from their end is that they’re “hiring.” Here’s a statement from an agency spokesperson: “We are continuing to hire to meet the needs of our clients, have many open positions in most locations right now, but cannot comment on employment specifics in any office.”

Well, here’s a comment from the tipster’s perspective that doesn’t paint such a rosy picture: “Critical Mass is doing a cross-network layoff / blood bath.  No specific details on numbers, but it is attributed to CitiBank pulling business.  Rumor is that the NY office will be reduced to a skeleton.” We’ve heard the “bloodbath” tips before, so we’re not calling doomsday, but we’re trying to get a bit more insight from the CM camp.
