Starbucks Gets (Red) This Holiday Season

Remember how Starbucks gave away free coffee to anyone who voted, then changed their tune when they realized, um, it’s illegal to offer incentives for voting? Well, now the coffeemaker wants you to know that for this holiday season, five cents from each sale of certain drinks will be donated to save lives in Africa.

Yes indeedly-doo kiddies, Starbucks has jumped on the (RED) wagon. Suffice it to say, we’re bo(red) with life saving &#151 please it’s so last year. Kidding. Kudos, coffee-people. Now, is there anything we can do about how wasteful coffee drinking has become? Cups + tops + sugar packet + pointless wooden stir-stick + cardboard hand protector thing = WASTE! Just sayin’.

In the spot above, you’ll see a nice little music/written word dance about the (RED) offering. Check it out, it’s nice and all that.

It was only about a week ago that Starbucks finally announced BBDO is their AOR, and already strong “giving back” branding seems to be their approuch. Well, considering how much money the company has taken from unsuspecting coffee drinkers, it’s about time. Must…end…caffeine addiction.
