‘Fargo’ Villain Takes on Role of ‘The Replacer’ in Latest ‘Black Ops II’ Promo

Like a less-slick, self-assured version of Harvey Keitel‘s “The Wolf” from Pulp Fiction, actor Peter Stormare, who you might remember from playing Steve Buscemi‘s even sleazier partner-in-crime in Fargo or to a lesser extent, “Slippery Pete” on Seinfeld, stars as “The Replacer” in 72andSunny’s latest lengthy effort for Activision. This time, agency and client team up to promote the latter’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Revolution, which will come equipped with new multiplayer apps, a new weapon and even a zombie mode to play undead.

In the two-and-a-half minute clip above, we find that “The Replacer” is actually a way more charitable character than Wolf, lending his services to a variety of gamers, whether a frustrated, domesticated type, an expecting parent, a guy on a blind date, a landscaper or even a zoo cleaner. The intensity of previous Call of Duty clips has supplanted by comedy, and we kinda welcome the change of pace. And plus, we have a soft spot for Stormare, a man who’s played bit/supporting roles in more movies than we can count.  Credits after the jump.

No Worries, Bikinis Still Remain in Carl’s Jr. Southern-Flavored Spot

Yes, that does appear to be the guy who gets dissed in that Michael Jordan Hanes ad from last year, but now he’s the star of this latest Carl’s Jr. effort from David&Goliath that promotes the chain’s “Made from Scratch” biscuits. The mustachioed stranger in the ad above emerges from the sand and interrupts some SoCal beach revelry with his over-exaggerated drawl and basketful of buttery treats. We guess his intrusion, though, is not as egregious as Carl’s Jr. actually trying to convince people that they make biscuits like those scrumptious ones from the south. Could we just bring back Olivia Munn already? Credits after the jump.

Nash, Solo Go Toe-to-Toe in ‘FIFA Soccer 12′

When he’s not starring or moonlighting in VitaminWater ads, getting Bieberized on the b-ball court or directing documentaries, Renaissance man/NBA star Steve Nash is making the most of his lockout time by, yes, playing video games with the one-and-only Hope Solo. In this latest EA Sports campaign from San Francisco’s Heat (and production company Skunk), the sports pros do battle in a game of FIFA Soccer 12. Nash once again shows off his great dry wit in a little pre-game trash talk, where he describes himself as “a gorilla and a leopard” with the straightest of faces. Guess it can be kinda fun watching other people play video games after all

If the Nash/Solo battle doesn’t suit you, a second spot in the Soccer 12 Matchups series stars Landon Donovan and SF Giants pitcher Tim “I’m Not the Guy from Dazed & Confused” Lincecum. See below. Credits after the jump.

Update: Along with getting a credits update (Rehab actually produced the Tim/Landon spot), we forgot to mention why we thought of this campaign in the first place and that’s the 60-second spot we first saw yesterday on Stereogum starring Nash, Solo and SNL‘s Seth Meyers and featuring Battles “Ice Cream” from their great new album, Drop Gloss. Watch it after the jump.

Olivia Munn, Kareem Ride Jet Skis, Devour Burgers for Carl’s Jr.

Using the tagline “Just the way it is” (is Bruce Hornsby getting royalties?), David&Goliath serves up another ad (directed by Matt Aselton of recent FedEx ad fame) for its client, Carl’s Jr., this time with celebrities included. The main highlight: Daily Show contributor Olivia Munn, in skimpy bikini and all, indulges her carnivorous cravings while riding the waves alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for whatever reason. While there’s no Miss Turkey this time around, there are plenty of other scantily clad women and somewhat appetizing burgers to make up for it. Credits after the jump…

RP&, Acura Get Weird with the Holidays

It might be odd to see venerable luxury car company Acura advertising savings these holiday season. But, agency RP& is doing that, in a strange and actually pretty funny fashion.

Seven holiday spots from RP& for Acura are being used this holiday season, all directed by Chelsea Pictures’ Rick LeMoine. As the ads state, Christmas gifts can lean toward overindulgence and overspending, or lead to simplicity. If you’re like me, the perfect gift can mean heading to the suburbs to find the last remaining copy of Mark Twain‘s autobiography because the entire city sold out weeks ago (oops). Or, if you’re just in the market for a simple luxury car (ha), you can by an Acura during the “Season of Reason.”

So next time you scoff at your friend for “reasonably” buying an Acura this holiday, remember, people won’t carpool with you because you “reasonably” bought a Toyota hybrid last holiday season.

Another spot and credits after the jump.
