McCann Exec Martinez to Join JWT, Replace Bob Jeffrey Come 2015

gustavosmallThere will be a major changing of the guards–well, eventually–at JWT’s top ranks as Gustavo Martinez has been tapped to succeed Bob Jeffrey as the agency’s global CEO in 2015. Jeffrey, who’s served as JWT’s top exec for 15 years, will continue in his role as chairman/worldwide CEO through 2014. In a statement regarding his eventual replacement, Jeffrey says, “Over the past few years, Gustavo and I have cultivated a relationship of mutual admiration and respect. He is passionate about the business, devoted to clients and understands that the key asset of the business is the caring, nurturing and understanding of its people. Gustavo Martinez is the future of JWT.” Couldn’t have ended it with a better exclamation point, we say.

While he awaits his move to top of the heap at JWT, Martinez (pictured) will assume the the role of global president of the WPP-owned agency network effective Feb. 2014. The exec currently serves as president for Europe and Asia at McCann Worldgroup, where’s he spent nearly the last three years. Martinez initially joined the Worldgroup from Ogilvy back in early 2011, replacing Brett Gosper as president of the European region. He subsequently moved up the charts at McCann, taking on more responsibility as co-leader of the agency’s Global Brand Community a year later. According to Campaign Asia-Pacific, McCann hasn’t made any announcement yet as to who Martinez’s potential replacement will be.

Gustavo Martinez Replaces Gosper at McCann Europe

Barely a year after taking on the dual roles of Ogilvy’s global new business director and head of the agency’s Global Brand Management division, Gustavo Martinez has now moved over to McCann to serve as president of Worldgroup, Europe. The Argentina native, who will report to the agency’s global chief exec Nick Brien, will in turn be responsible for managing and expanding McCann’s global client portfolio throughout the region and driving collaboration across the marketing disciplines in order to bring integrated solutions to the shops clients.

Martinez, who holds a PhD in Economics, replaces Brett Gosper, who just left McCann to “pursue other opportunites” as the saying goes. The new McCann president is no stranger to the IPG agency, having once served as head of the McCann Erickson Communications Group in Barcelona during the late 90′s. In a statement, Martinez says that he’s “delighted to be coming back home.”

McCann Worldgroup Shakes Up Leadership

Nick Brien‘s been a busy man this week it seems as the CEO of McCann Worldgroup has announced leadership changes across various units including MRM, McCann Healthcare and Worldgroup itself. Most notable is the appointment of Marc Landsberg to CEO of MRM Worldwide. Landsberg replaces Reuben Hendell, who spent the last six years as head of the agency but is now “leaving” we’ve been told.

Landsberg arrives from private equity firm Lake Capital, but held senior exec posts at Arc Worldwide and Leo Burnett. While we’re on the MRM tip, the agency added a few other staffers to its NYC HQ including John Running as SVP, director of technology, Martha Pearlstone as SVP, brand leader on General Mills and Diageo as well as Shannon Di Paola as VP, director of search.

Along with the MRM leadership shift, 14-year McCann Healthcare vet John Cahill has been named global CEO of said unit. As for the Worldgroup , Tara Comonte succeeds Gary Lee as CFO,  Patrick Lafferty is joining to lead the newly created Global Brand Community.  Overseas, McCann is splitting up its EMEA region, with Brett Gosper continuing to head Europe and Luca Linder adding the Middle East and Africa to his Latin America/Caribbean responsibilities.
