We Hear: Momentum Parts Ways with ECD? (Updated: Yes)

Word on the street from multiple sources is that Josh Tavlin, who has spent just over a year as SVP/ECD at Momentum’s NY headquarters, is no longer with the agency. Tavlin, who also serves as an adjunct professor at Pratt, dubbed his alleged ex-employer one of “planet earth’s most eclectic experiential agencies.” Anyhow, you might remember Tavlin as a former SVP/group creative director at Ogilvy, where he spent nearly two decades but departed said agency along with fellow creatives Chris Mitton and Bruce Henderson at the beginning of last year. When reached for comment, we were transferred to Tavlin’s assistant at Momentum though direct contact was futile. We’ll keep you posted on the goings on once we get the official word, but we’re hearing that Tavlin was let go by Momentum yesterday.

Update: Momentum confirms that it has parted ways with Tavlin, and while not getting into specifics, the agency says, “We truly wish Josh the best in his next chapter.”

G2 Parts Ways with Brian Hull

A year-and-a-half after rejoining G2, executive creative director Brian Hull is no longer with the agency according to sources familiar with the matter. Hull’s second tour of duty at the agency called for him to served as ECD of G2′s Interactive practice, but from what we’ve been told, his role has been phased out as part of a restructuring of the creative department that’s being led by CCO Bruce Henderson (who arrived from O&M a year ago).

Before his return trip to G2, Hull spent nearly three years as group creative director at Organic and continues to serve as principal of his own firm, Brian Hull Designs.

G2 Parts Ways with Lehouillier, Promotes Two to GCD

It seems it’s been fairly quiet this year when it comes to staffing changes at G2 ever since Bruce Henderson joined up as CCO in late January. But now, we’re getting reports from sources familiar with the matter that there’s some “restructuring” happening within the creative department. One of the changes as a result is the exit of Rene Lehouillier, who was bumped up last year to co-ECD (along with Geoff Council) of the agency’s relationship marketing practice. Lehouillier (pictured) had been with G2 USA for 18 months. Prior to joining the agency, he spent 15 years at OgilvyOne, starting as an ACD and eventually moving up to executive creative director.

While G2 has lost an ECD, the agency is also promoting from within, appointing current creative directors Mark Chew and Todd Stanton to GCD. Chew has spent well over four years at G2 USA while Stanton joined eight months ago. We’ve been told that under Henderson’s lead, the “lines are blurring” at the agency and that creative roles (among others) are becoming more broad and less attached to one specific practice, such as relationship marketing.

Bruce Henderson Takes CCO Post at G2

Well, our sources were somewhat right in saying that Bruce Henderson was leaving Ogilvy for a “top direct marketing agency.” But as we previously hinted, G2 has appointed the OgilvyOne alum as chief creative officer of its North American operations. G2 says that this is the first time that the WPP agency’s hired a CCO to lead creative across all of its practices, including Branding & Design, Digital/Interactive Marketing, Experiential, Marketing, Shopper/Promotional Marketing and Relationship Marketing.

During his eight-year tenure at Ogilvy, Henderson moved up from digital copywriter to GCD/senior partner and worked on accounts including Siemens, TD Ameritrade, Six Flags (“More Flags, More Fun”), Dove, Perrier, IBM, SAP and DuPont. On the side, Henderson fancies himself a non-fiction writer, musician and TV programmer.

Senior CDs Leaving Ogilvy

There’s a little creative director shakeup happening at O&M this week as sources familiar with the matter confirm to us that Chris Mitton, Bruce Henderson and Josh Tavlin are all leaving the agency. Before you start blaming anyone specific or crying mutiny, our sources tell us that the departures are all unrelated. Tavlin (pictured), who’s been with Ogilvy for nearly two decades and currently holds the title of SVP/GCD in New York, is joining Momentum as ECD effective Feb. 1.

Mitton’s departure is a little murkier as sources say that his leaving has nothing to do with the agency, but is due to “personal reasons” and he’s getting out of New York to take a job elsewhere. The ECD was recently paired up with David Carson, who joined Ogilvy a month ago, to work on American Express and IKEA among other accounts. As for Henderson, who’s currently a top creative at OgilvyOne, we’ve been told that he’s leaving to take an ECD post at a “top direct marketing agency.”

This latest round of exits follows those of Tom Godici and Greg Ketchum, who worked on the IBM account but left in October of last year for BBDO after Steve Simpson took over at Ogilvy. We think the words “feeling redundant” could apply in this case.
