Warner Returns to Richards Group

Well, this is news to us, but Carl Warner, who’s spent the last several years in Atlanta, first at JWT then briefly at Engauge, has returned to his old stomping grounds at Dallas-based The Richards Group, where he now serves as creative group head. We’ve been told this is actually Warner’s third stint at Richards, where he initially started in the ’80s as an art director.

Most recently, as mentioned, Warner had a seven-month stint at Engauge after spending nearly six years at JWT ATL, where he last served as co-president/ECD before the latter agency parted ways with him in summer 2011. No word yet on what Warner’s current title exactly entails or what accounts he’s “head” of, but last we heard from Richards Group, of course, was when the Texas stalwart put out the Ram “God Made a Farmer” Super Bowl spot this year.

JWT Alum Carl Warner Out at Engauge

A quick phone call has confirmed that Carl Warner is no longer with Atlanta-based Engauge, which over the years has counted clients including Perkins, Home Depot, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and, yes, Chick-fil-A. Anyhow, prior to his seven-month stint as EVP/executive creative director at Engauge, Warner served as co-president/ECD at JWT Atlanta before the latter agency parted ways with him last summer. Warner spent nearly nine years at JWT in all (including three as a CD in Detroit) and has worked on the creative side at the likes of DDB and Team One during his career.

Carl Warner Out at JWT Atlanta

The search is on for a new executive creative director at JWT’s Atlanta office as sources familiar with the matter confirm that Carl Warner is no longer with the agency. We hear that Rob Quish, who assumed the CEO post there back in April, is trying to shake things up a bit. JWT ATL counts the Marines as its flagship client and works on Shell and Transamerica among other accounts as well.

As for Warner, the exec spent the last eight years at JWT, first serving as a creative director in Detroit from 2003-2006 before moving down south to take on president/ECD job in Atlanta. Prior to JWT, Warner spent nine years as a CD at DDB Dallas and had creative stints at The Richards Group and Team One during his career.
