Moxie Welcomes New CTO, Creative Lead

After what seemed like a departure-plagued spring and summer at Moxie Interactive, the Atlanta-based Zenith Media agency finally has some good news to report as it’s not only brought on Matthew Fleischman as chief technology officer, but Anthony Reeves as EVP, creative. In terms of the former, Fleischman has spent the last two-and-a-half years as director, digital systems and analytics at Microsoft’s Redmond, WA headquarters and has also served on the technology side at agencies such as Wunderman, McCann and what was then Publicis Modem.

As for its new creative hire, Moxie didn’t have to look too far to essentially find its replacement for Chris Gomersall, who split for Facebook several months ago. Reeves (pictured) has spent the last four years or so in Seattle as ECD/VP of creative at Draftfcb unit The Hacker Group. Prior to Hacker, the creative exec spent time as a CD at the likes of JWT and New Zealand’s Clemenger BBDO.

Fleischman’s start date at Moxie has been for Oct. 15 while Reeves, we’ve been told, will assume his post “some time in October.” Update: On Hacker’s end, the DFCB division has confirmed that Anthony, who is relocating to Atlanta, will be leaving the agency in early October.

Arturo Aranda Leaves BBDO

Mark Zuckerberg & Co. have nabbed yet another senior creative from the agency world by the name of Arturo Aranda. The creative (left) has spent the last 12 years or so within the BBDO network, initially at what was then Atmosphere BBDO and then the last three at BBDO New York proper, where he’s served as interactive CD and finally SVP/senior CD on accounts including AT&T.

If you need a refresher on some recent Aranda-led efforts, you might remember the “Mountaintop” Valentine’s Day work or the Will Arnett-starring “You’ve Got a Case” campaign for the aforementioned telecom giant from last year. No word yet on what Aranda’s exact position is at Facebook, but perhaps he’ll find a kindred spirit at the company in fellow former senior agency creative Chris Gomersall, who left Moxie barely two months ago to take up a creative strategist role with Zuck and the gang. We’ve been told Aranda’s last day at BBDO NY was last Friday.

We Hear: What’s Going on at Moxie? (Updated)

Since Monday, multiple sources have been telling us that Atlanta-based Moxie Interactive has cut staff and one of those affected is EVP, account planning & research Alyse Schwartz. Multiple calls to the exec, who has been with Moxie for six-and-a-half years, have been met with automated voicemails and on Twitter this past Monday, she tweeted this rather cryptic comment: “The biggest decisions are the hardest #HardestThingsInLife.” We’ve been told that Moxie cut approximately 15 staffers on Monday.

We’ve put in several calls and emails to the Publicis/ZenithOptimedia agency, which recently lost longtime creative Chris Gomersall to Facebook (and not to mention its top exec last December).  We’ll keep you posted when we get more info.

Update: We’ve received word that Schwartz was not part of the cuts (which did happen) but has turned in her resignation. She will remain with the agency, though, through the end of April.

Moxie Vet Chris Gomersall Splitting for Facebook

Two months after last hearing from Atlanta-based Moxie Interactive, we’ve received confirmation that another senior exec is leaving the agency. Chris Gomersall, who has spent over nine years at Moxie and served as SVP, creative, has accepted a position as a creative strategist at Facebook. Gomersall tells us, “Moxie is an amazing place with unbelievable talent which made it a difficult decision. The Facebook position is an incredible opportunity and I’m excited to join the team.”

Gomersall adds that as of April 1, his time at Moxie will come to an end. During his lengthy stay at the Atlanta operation, the creative spearheaded efforts for clients including Verizon, Coca-Cola, L’Oreal, 20th Century Fox, Hewlett-Packard, Cartoon Network and the NFL.

Tipster are saying that Moxie SVP, strategy Greg Satell is also heading out the door, but no confirmation as of yet. We’ll keep you posted.
