Dr. Pepper, Deutsch LA Continue Advocating Individuality, Now with Slice of Life Approach

Alas, there are no “T-shirt uniforms” to hammer home the message of individuality in this latest Dr. Pepper campaign from Deutsch LA, which is now eschewing grandiose productions and blockbuster cross-promotions to instead focus on real people, real stories. The above spot, dubbed “One in a Billion” (title track courtesy of the Vinyl Hearts), should give you the basic gist of how the agency’s ongoing “Always One of a Kind” campaign for the soda brand is evolving.

The heartwarming, human interest angle is one that’s been tread on aplenty, but it’s a somewhat interesting detour considering that at the end of the day, all agency and client are doing are selling soda. Will it take this year? Who knows, but in the meantime, check out out two specific stories, one focusing on a model-turned-boxer and the other a mother of five/roller derby queen along with credits after the jump.

B-Reel, Google, W+K Take Cyber Grand Prix at Cannes

Here’s your quick EOD update from Cannes. B-Reel, Google Creative Lab, director Chris Milk and collaborator Aaron Koblin nabbed a Cyber Grand Prix for their interactive film, “The Wilderness Downtown,” for Grammy winners Arcade Fire. W+K’s Old Spice “Responses” effort also picked up a Cyber as well as R/GA for its “Pay With a Tweet” concept. As for B-Reel, the digital production shop also picked up Silver Lions for its Chrome Fastball effort.

Lexus ‘Dark Ride’ Takes FWA’s People’s Choice Award

It looks like all the campaigning from my former colleague and his agency, Skinny, paid off as Lexus “Dark Ride” won the FWA’s People’s Choice Award for 2010. A collaboration between said shop and prodco, Stink Digital, the Lexus effort nabbed over 44 million site visits, sending viewers on an interactive joyride as they play navigator alongside the guy from Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead. Check out the responses from the creative parties involved here. FYI, FWA bestowed Site of the Year honors upon Google Creative Lab, Chris Milk, B-Reel and Aaron Koblin for their Arcade Fire “Wilderness Downtown” work.
