HP Touches Windows 8 in All the Right Places

Upon seeing the above BBDO NY-created spot for HP and Windows 8, it seemed like yet another attempt by the PC world to make their products appeal to the hippest masses a la Apple. In fact, it reminded me of the “I’m a PC” campaign that Windows ran a few years back, with popular indie DJ Girl Talk yelling the phrase before he jumped in a mosh pit of sweaty teenagers. However, I would encourage you to watch the entire 30-second spot, as the reveal at the end is what makes this great.

Sure, DJ Robbie Wilde has an exceptionally unique situation for which the touch capabilities of Windows 8 are helpful to him. But, this spot both demonstrates the product, tells a touching story and displays the “cool factor” all in 30 seconds, which is just about as much as you can ask for.

Credits and a second, less-compelling spot follow after the jump.

Senior CDs Leaving Ogilvy

There’s a little creative director shakeup happening at O&M this week as sources familiar with the matter confirm to us that Chris Mitton, Bruce Henderson and Josh Tavlin are all leaving the agency. Before you start blaming anyone specific or crying mutiny, our sources tell us that the departures are all unrelated. Tavlin (pictured), who’s been with Ogilvy for nearly two decades and currently holds the title of SVP/GCD in New York, is joining Momentum as ECD effective Feb. 1.

Mitton’s departure is a little murkier as sources say that his leaving has nothing to do with the agency, but is due to “personal reasons” and he’s getting out of New York to take a job elsewhere. The ECD was recently paired up with David Carson, who joined Ogilvy a month ago, to work on American Express and IKEA among other accounts. As for Henderson, who’s currently a top creative at OgilvyOne, we’ve been told that he’s leaving to take an ECD post at a “top direct marketing agency.”

This latest round of exits follows those of Tom Godici and Greg Ketchum, who worked on the IBM account but left in October of last year for BBDO after Steve Simpson took over at Ogilvy. We think the words “feeling redundant” could apply in this case.

BBDO NY Adds New ECDs

Two BBDO-related main items in one day? Two BBDO-related main items in one day. The New York office of the Omnicom-owned agency hired creative pair Greg Ketchum and Tom Godici (l-r) as executive creative directors.

Godici and Ketchum most recently worked at Ogilvy NY as ECDs. Godici, a 20-year industry vet, oversaw the global IBM work for 10 years while at O&M and had stints at GCD at TBWA\Chiat Day New York and Deutsch’s NY operations as GCD and CD, respectively, prior.

Ketchum, meanwhile, hits the two-decade range of industry experience as well, and is actually rejoining BBDO, where he spent eight years at the agency’s West coast office (1989-1997) as CD on Apple (remember when they won the account from sister Omnicom shop Chiat in 1986?). After BBDO, Ketchum joined what was then Hal Riney & Partners and served as creative director on Saturn before eventually taking on the worldwide CD post on HP account for the Publicis network.

The duo, who join BBDO this month, won a few prizes for the IBM “Smarter Planet” work while at Ogilvy.
