McCann Goes on Promotion Spree

Twas a busy day at camp McCann as the Worldgroup has made several promotions within its leadership ranks. Among those getting a bump-up are Michael McLaren, formerly MRM East president and global client solutions director, who has now been made president of MRM’s worldwide operations.

While we’re on the MRM front, Hank Summy, who joined McCann from Sapient in fall 2011 to serve as president, North America, will now serve as president, commerce at the former agency. Meanwhile, current MRM EVP/chief technology officer, North America Andy Jacobs (pictured) will add global responsibilities to his CTO role. Taking over as president at McCann New York will be one Chris Macdonald, most recently chief executive at the agency’s London office. Speaking of McCann London, while Macdonald crosses the pond, Rob Doubal and Laurence Thomson, who served as co-ECDs in said office, will be moving up the ladder to serve as co-presidents/chief creative officers. Get all that? Good.

Retail Biz is Just Peachy at McCann, According to President Hank Summy

This memo from McCann North America president Hank Summy to staff dropped in the inbox a little while ago. Among other things, the exec, who joined from SapientNitro last fall appears to be saying that it’s all good when it comes to retail clients including Staples and Kohl’s (the latter of which has begun scouring the agency landscape for a new shop to handle strategy work). Without further ado, we bring you Summy’s memo , which provides a sunny outlook and a quick update on what’s happening at his agency.

“Given that one of the categories hardest hit by the economy is retail, it’s not surprising that leading retailers – including Kohl’s and Staples – are looking for ideas and initiatives from a number of sources. McCann Officially Welcomes Mike Parker

It sure didn’t take long for McCann Erickson to welcome Mike Parker to the fold. Just days after splitting from Tribal DDB San Francisco, the exec is officially taking on the role of chief digital innovation officer. Parker, who continues to work out of the Bay Area, will serve McCann’s North American operations in his new post. Regarding Parker, Hank Summy, McCann North America president, says in a statement, “His charge is to build specialist digital capabilities and talent into the very core of McCann, so that digital story-telling is integrated into everything we do, woven into the creation and execution of all brand ideas, and is an integral part of our environment.”

Along with Parker’s arrival as well as that of TBWA\Chiat\Day alum Jeremy Miller‘s, McCann has also brought on Thompson Reuters alum Alex Spinelli to serve as chief technology officer of Worldgroup.

McCann NY Hires First Chief Experience Officer

Now that McCann’s added some swagger to its step following its GM co-win, the agency’s New York office as now welcomed Lynn Teo in the newly created post of chief experience officer. Teo, who has spent the last 18 months or so as head of user experience at AKQA, will lead McCann’s first-ever Experience Design department and will report to McCann Erickson North America president Hank Summy.

Prior to her gig at AKQA, Teo held dual roles at SapientNitro, directing teams in New York and London as creative director/director of experience design.

Summy Takes Prez Post at McCann North America

Digital marketing vet Hank Summy is taking over the reins at McCann Erickson North America as the SapientNitro alum will assume the role of NA president come November. Summy most recently served as managing director of Sapient’s NY-based Eastern region and was part of the agency’s overall leadership team. Now at McCann, he will work alongside CCO Linus Karlsson and be responsible for McCann agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada.

In addition, Pat Lafferty has been bumped up to COO of McCann Erickson North America just a year after joining the agency as MD of global brands. Summy and Lafferty’s boss, McCann Worldgroup CEO/chairman Nick Brien, says in a statement, “[Hank]has successfully built technology-marketing businesses that have all achieved double digital growth and deep levels of client satisfaction. Pat is the ideal partner for him, having proven himself to be a highly effective leader across many of our most complex global accounts.”

Sapient Corp Merging NY Operations, Moving Downtown

Sapient Corporation is moving from Penn Plaza to 40 Fulton St. in Lower Manhattan as the company is consolidating its Big Apple operations, merging SapientNitro and Sapient Global Markets and taking residence in four floors at the aforementioned address come September of this year. Regarding the imminent move to its “open, creative work environment,” which seems to be all the rage these days, SapientNitro NY SVP, managing director Hank Summy says in a statement, “We appreciate how the downtown area has evolved from a 9 to 5 business district into a vibrant area with residential buildings, hotels, dining, fine shopping and excellent access to the waterfront.” Whether the 10-year, 52,000 square-foot lease will inspire employees and clients as the holding company hopes is yet to be determined.
