CP+B Names Jay Gelardi Digital ECD

-41CP+B announced today the hiring of Jay Gelardi as digital executive creative director.

Prior to joining CP+B, Gelardi was digital creative director at Sydney-based agency The Monkeys. During his time there he helped lead the agency to six “Agency of the Year” titles from awards shows and Australian advertising publications. Before The Monkeys Jay spent eight years at Agency Republic, London. He has worked with brand including IKEA, Intel, Mercedes, PlayStation, Samsung, Smirnoff and The BBC. Additionally, in 2008, Jay set up Republic Film, “a production company specializing in interactive film and animation,” and in 2011 he co-founded “a Twitter-based charitable venture that translated people’s foul-mouthed tweets into donations to good causes” called Charity Swearbox.

“The Digital ECD is a critical role at CP+B,” said Ivan Perez-Armendariz, executive vice president/chief digital officer, CP+B.  “We’re at our best when it’s filled with someone that has made the choice to live and breathe digital 100% of the time. Jay is someone who really understands that the book of advertising conventions is being rewritten almost on a daily basis. We are thrilled that he is here to help us continue to rewrite that book.”

First-Ever Award Show for GIFs Launches Today

GIFYSThe .GIFYs launch today, the first-ever award show dedicated to the animated .GIF format.

Created by a team at CP+B LA “in order to honor GIFs as a medium, social commentary and art form,” the .GIFYs nominees were selected by “a panel of internet experts from Buzzfeed, Gawker, Tumblr, Mashable, Joystiq, The Daily Dot, Engadget and more, who have pulled from their own archives, reached out to their hundreds of thousands of twitter followers and endlessly scoured the Internet to curate the best of the best animated GIFs.”

Starting today, the .GIFYs crew has opened up voting to the public to select winners across 12 categories: Animals, Art+Design, Can’t Look Away, Cats, Film+TV, Mashup, Nature+Science, News+Politics, Reaction, Sports, WTF, and GIF of the Year. “The GIF is now 26 years old, and there are millions of them online. It’s time they received their due respect with a proper awards show,” explained .GIFYS co-founder William Sawyer at CP+B Los Angeles. “We recruited some of the top names in internet culture to curate the best, and we’re looking to the whole internet to decide the winners.”

Needless to say, many of the nominees are hilarious, and most of these categories should be hotly contested. Head on over to the .GIFYs site to make your voice heard, and don’t forget to vote for the GIF of the dude pouring Dr. Pepper all over himself behind John Kruk in the News+Politics section. Voting for the .GIFYs lasts a week, and the winners will be announced on the site later in the month. Stay tuned for credits after the jump.  Read more

Tung Takes Over for Perez-Armendariz at CP+B

Just over a month after promoting Ivan Perez-Armendariz to the new role of EVP/chief digital officer, Crispin Porter + Bogusky has found his successor in Tony Tung, who has spent the last year as VP, group executive producer at the agency’s Boulder HQ. Tung, who will remain in the Boulder office, will now take on Perez-Armendariz’s former role as VP, director of interactive production.

Tung has spent over three years at CP+B, where he has worked on notable digital efforts including the Dominos “Pizza Hero” iPad app and “Cheesy Font” site as well as Best Buy’s Movie Mode mobile app. During his stint at CP+B, Tung has also been involved in digital projects for Microsoft, Burger King and Old Navy. Says his predecessor in a statement, “The job description for Director of Interactive Production is to lead, make great work and prevent bad work from happening. Tony does this while also building great teams and growing the super producers of the future. It’s great to have his leadership in Boulder.”

CP+B Appoints New CDO

Crispin Porter + Bogusky has promoted four-year agency vet Ivan Perez-Armendariz to chief digital officer, which we’ve been told is a new post at the MDC agency. Perez-Armendariz officially joined the CP+B camp when his shop texturemedia was acquired back in 2008. You might recall that the new CDO succeeded Winston Binch, who’s now at Deutsch LA, over 15 months ago as director of interactive production and subsequently added EVP to his title this past May.

CP+B CEO Andrew Keller says of the new, L.A.-based digital boss (who happens to be a Boulder native), “Ivan has been an enormous asset to us and an amazing partner to me. His entrepreneurial spirit and digital expertise allow him to lead in a practical and compelling way that invigorates clients as well as everyone at CP+B.”
