In W+K’s Latest for Nike+, Every Workout Becomes a Game

Anyone who’s gone running after a hard day knows the power of an active imagination. With every arm pump, you might be punching your boss in the face. With every stride, you’re building yourself into the powerhouse that will soon confront your boyfriend about his lack of follow-through.  Some picture themselves as superheroes, sprinting through the streets to make the ultimate rescue. When we push our bodies, our minds make the physical effort possible–and even fun.

W+K’s latest spots for Nike+ helps bring those mental adventures to life. The star runners of their TV ads are in a real-life video game, leaping up palettes and climbing through windows as they complete their workouts. Nike+ helps runners measure, map, track and share their runs, gamifying the work out process and inspiring everyday runners to reach farther.

My only complaint with both ‘Game on World’ and ‘Run Your City’ is their weak music selection. I get that they’re going for a tinkery game soundtrack, but I would rather they forfeit the game theme in favor of some motivational (and still techno-flavored) Diplo or bouncy pop Walk the Moon.

Old Spice: Now Strong Enough to Help You Dump Heather Graham

The W+K/Old Spice cavalcade continues as the agency is now touting the P&G brand’s Champion lineup with a new series of ads, one of which features a brief appearance from a sandcastle Delorean and Rollergirl herself, Heather Graham (above). Who needs the Rocky theme when you can instill self-confidence via W+K’s latest campaign, which carries the regrettable yet appropriate tagline “Believe in Your Smellf.” At least we can say the Portland HQ’s ongoing work for Old Spice continues to be fairly unpredictable and eye-catching. Peep a :15 spot and credits after the jump.

Nike Unleashes a Horse on a Golf Course

The Nike 20XI: It’s a horse of a golf ball. Contrary to what this latest spot from W+K may look like, the ball is not actually black. So, if you’re a golfer (I’m not) and wondering what makes this ball so special, read the Golf.com review here and make up your own mind as to whether or not it’s blowing open the doors on golfing technology. As every golf accessory has claimed to do this since the game was invented, I’m guessing it’s not going to make much of a difference.

Now to this ad. Directed by Ellen Kuras, it definitely looks really cool. But, with Nike Golf’s biggest superstar still not quite back to form (despite an impressive showing at the Masters), instead of seeing a Tiger, we’re seeing a horse…a horse that runs around and destroys a golf course. That’s really all there is to it. The horse and the 20XI are one in the same, you see. They will destroy everything in their path. And, as we see in a spot called “Aftermath,” this doomsday device rolls just wide of the hole, leaving divots in its wake. Credits and “Aftermath” after the jump.
