G2 USA Names New CEO

A few weeks after we first reported that G2 USA CEO John Paulson was leaving the agency, we’ve finally come to find out who his successor is: Harvey Kipnis, most recently regional director for OgilvyOne North America. We’ve been told G2 made the announce today and and from what we hear, Kipnis is expected to assume his CEO post in G2 USA’s New York hub in the next week or so.

Though he only spent the last 10 months as regional director, NA at OgilvyOne, Kipnis’s relationship with O&M dates back to 2003, when he first joined up as managing director of OgilvyOne New York. Since that time, Kipnis has also served as chief growth officer for Ogilvy North America. Prior to O&M, the exec spent 11 years at Digitas, where he held various positions.

Conti Out at G2

While we await the imminent announce of new leadership at G2 USA, we’ll quickly answer the deluge of tips that have flowed in about this one following the John Paulson news. Yes, we can confirm that G2 USA president Tom Conti is no longer with the agency. The Conti update comes just a few months after the exec hailed the opening of the agency’s new Philadelphia office. Conti had tallied up four-and-a-half years at G2, first taking the lead at what was then G2 Interactive in Philly. Prior to his most recent gig, which had him overseeing digital and interactive operations in G2′s New York and Pennsylvania offices, Conti spent time on the account/management side at the likes of Ketchum and MRM/Princeton.

Paulson Leaving G2

Sources familiar with the matter confirm that G2 USA CEO John Paulson will soon be leaving the agency, and perhaps the industry altogether. No timetable has been set for his official departure, but from what we hear, G2 already has a successor locked and could be announcing him/her in the coming days. Nearly four years ago, Paulson was promoted to the chief exec post as part of the agency’s move to consolidate management of its U.S. operations. Prior to the appointment, he served for two years as president of what was then G2 Interactive.

Prior to G2, Paulson spent time on the account side at DDB and also had stints at M&C Saatchi, JWT and Grey. We’ll keep you posted as things develop.

G2: Still Alive, Adds New Management in NA Offices

Yes, our marathon G2 coverage continues, folks. In the aftermath of the Wendy Lurrie “resignation” yesterday, the agency has sent us some good news, which concerns a changing of the guard in its management team across its national offices. This part of what G2 USA CEO John Paulson previously called a “larger restructuring” of the WPP agency.

Here are some key changes: Tom Conti, who joined the Philly office of G2 Interactive back in 2008 and is currently president of G2′s Interactive practice, is taking on added responsibilities over the agency’s portfolio of healthcare businesses in the Relationship Marketing practice as well as oversight of the agency’s Media practice. Newbies to G2, meanwhile, include executive director/GM of G2 Chicago, Nancy Leibig (right), once the “business development golden girl” Draftfcb who left after a decade to take on a GM post at DDB Chicago for three years.

Leibig’s San Francisco counterpart will be Brent Shedd, who is taking on the same post in the Bay Area and arrives from Cheil Worldwide subsidiary, One Agency. Prior to that, Shedd had stints at agencies including Ammirati Puris Lintas and The Richards Group.
