Soccer Rules Qatar Airways in ‘The Land of FCB’

What if an entire country was built around the theme of a sports team? Every wall, building, and inch of space would be swathed in team colors and logos. While some European cities may resemble this set up (as does Green Bay, Wisconsin), there’s nothing as extreme as the land of FC Barcelona, a fictional place created by 180 Amsterdam that brings together one of the best soccer teams in the world with its sponsor, Qatar Airways, for a light-hearted spot.

Everything seems rather cheery in the land of FCB. I’m not sure of crime rates, prison systems, recidivism,  or income inequality, but I do know that Lionel Messi teaches soccer performing arts. Pique works at an airport. And Carles Puyol walks around with his long locks waiting to head falling potted plants. Even if the ad is a little corny, there are a few smart, subtle easter eggs, like streets named Tiki and Taka. Although, I imagine the quick movements on those roads makes for some queasy driving.

Mother, Acer Introduce Us to Vernon, Assistant to the ‘World’s #1 DJ’

After showing us Kiefer Sutherland/Jack Bauer’s, er, softer side and making a case for Megan Fox as a marine biologist, Mother London and Acer have teamed up again for another fairly amusing web film to promote one of the computer brand’s Ultrabooks. This latest collaboration stars the globe-trotting Dutch progressive house DJ/producer now simply known as Tiesto and his hapless assistant, Vernon, who perhaps resembles a hybrid of Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen.

One would think that Tiesto, who probably earns at least six figures a gig in a million exotic destinations and has been lathered up by the likes of DJ Magazine and Rolling Stone as the “world’s #1 DJ” over the years, would hire someone a bit less befuddled than Vernon to run his affairs. But, as you can see, being adept at using an Acer Aspire P3 Ultrabook can turn even the most awkward of characters into a model-luring, scene-stealing star. We can all dare to dream. IKEA’s UK ‘Brand Revitalization’ Begins Through the Eyes of a Child

On a gloomy New York morning, this new effort from Mother for IKEA adds a little pep to our step. The spot, dubbed “Playin’ With My Friends,” kicks off what is being touted as a new brand strategy in the U.K. and Ireland for home furnishing chain, IKEA. In the clip above, a young girl plays dinner party host to a variety of oversized characters including a robot, action figure and what appears to be Godzilla.

While visually appealing, the spot is helped aplenty by the grooving tune, which sounds a hell of a lot like Gorillaz (Update: It’s actually a re-recording of the BB King/Robert Cray song of the same name). While the scenario being played out is all in the girl’s head, the parties involved say that on a larger scale, it’s meant to help convey IKEA’s new, aforementioned strategy: Create campaigns focused on activities and needs in the home rather than just rooms in it. Whatever you take away from it is up to you, but we have to say we’re not frowning half as much. Credits after the jump.
