FCB West Gets Interactive for Dragon Age: Inquisition

FCB West created a campaign promoting the release of Electronic Art’s Dragon Age Inquisition, centered around broadcast and online trailers.

The trailers feature dramatic gameplay footage designed to pique viewers interest in the game, which was released this Thursday. In the 80-second broadcast spot, “The Breach,” for example, an epic battle ends with a dragon blowing fire at the screen, which turns into the title and release date, accompanied by the tagline “Lead them or fall.”

But FCB West’s campaign doesn’t end with the trailers, as the agency created a whole interactive experience which “both challenges and rewards fans with bonus content like no other advertising campaign to date.” The agency created “Quest for the Red Lyrium Reapers,” an interactive experience at DragonAge.com which challenges players with finding hidden content within the game’s campaign videos, and offers a unique incentive: an in-game weapons pack. It’s an interesting approach to get fans engaged with FCB’s campaign, and one that makes the content relevant past the release date. Tori Spelling Hosts Glad ForceFlex Black Bags Reality Show Starring Animals Because This Is Where We Are Now

Who could forget Glad and EVB’s charming spoof of reality TV “The Wild Life,” which followed the messy living habits of anthropomorphic woodland creatures? Yes, watching the trashiness of puppets covered in trash drove America absolutely fanatical, with the national phenomenon causing grocery stores across the country to sell out of Glad ForceFlex Black Bags as soon as they were placed on the shelf.

Now, the animal celebs are onto side projects. They’re pulling a Gary Sinese and forming terrible bar bands. They’re starting gaudy fashion lines. They’re letting addiction take over their lives. And, who better to host this aftershow than Tori Spelling, whose appearance in this just kind of makes you sad and remember that, oh yeah, you should probably be concerned about how Tori Spelling is doing because she’s probably going through some stuff right now.

Ray Lewis, Paul Rudd Play Lifelong Friends/Rivals for Latest ‘Madden’ Installment

In a bizarro world concocted by the minds at San Francisco shop Heat, Baltimore Ravens defensive powerhouse Ray Lewis and Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers star Paul Rudd have known each other all their lives. So tis the premise for the latest TV/campaign dubbed “Madden Forever,” which as you can probably gather, is promoting EA Sports’ latest Madden installment, Madden NFL 13.

As you’ll see above, Lewis & Rudd (makes for a decent band name) not only love the lucrative Madden franchise, but grew up as “young thespians” and it was Rudd in fact who taught Lewis how to do his famous “squirrel dance.” The “Interview” web video is just one of several clips from the campaign along with the “Old Rivals” TV spot below (the full series can be viewed here).

While Heat has tried the rivalry concept out for other EA Sports franchises before (remember Steve Nash vs. Hope Solo?),  we have to say the agency has honed the humor angle quite a bit. Thus, the winning streak for EA campaigns continues. Credits after the jump.

Smutley the Cat Teaches the Importance of Safe Sex for AIDES

Meet Smutley the Cat, a sex-crazed cartoon feline that humps just about everything in sight. If an animal has a pulse, Smutley will have sex with it and totally ignore using protection. It doesn’t even look like Smutley asks for consent most of the time, but somehow he roams the streets free from police.

Of course, Smutley is fictional, and unsafe sex is exactly what this spot from AIDES, the French association tackling HIV and AIDS, and the creative folks at Goodby are trying to fight against. Goodby partnered with multiple illustrators and animators for the above online spot, which definitely would not fly on U.S. broadcast television. This isn’t the first time AIDES used a somewhat shocking campaign. If you recall, just last year, AIDES and TBWA Paris released a spot titled “Graffiti” which featured a cartoon penis chasing around bathroom stall sketches of women and vaginas. Truly, Europe’s sense of sexual humor is bit different than what we consider appropriate for PSAs here in the States.

AIDES’ YouTube page states that the organization’s challenge with the spot was to “de-dramatize the somewhat embarrassing, if not plain awkward, moment when ‘rubber protection’ needs to be discussed.” Well, perverted anthropomorphic cartoons cats everywhere may have found their calling and a use for their nine lives.
