We wish him well in his ongoing industry activity, particularly in the area of diversity and inclusion, where we will continue to work together.”

Though the transition is now underway, Murray’s official start state is still to be determined. Replacing Brien as McCann Worldgroup’s CEO is Harris Diamond, who most recently served as chairman/CEO of IPG’s Constituency Management Group. Says Roth in a statement, “Harris understands the business needs of global CEOs, across a range of industries. He has a proven track record of effectively managing a portfolio of agencies and growing the top line. He has created a strong culture of collaboration, which is increasingly key in a marketing landscape that requires integration of services. And he brings a deep knowledge of McCann in light of the alignment between Worldgroup and a number of the agencies within CMG, such as Weber Shandwick and FutureBrand.”

Along with Diamond’s appointment, IPG has given Luca Lindner and Gustavo Martinez, McCann Worldgroup president, Americas and Worldgroup president, Europe, respectively, more responsibilities with the former adding Middle East and Africa responsibilities (something he’s familiar with)and the latter, Asia-Pacific.

Draftfcb just sent the word out to employees this morning that it’s purchased Tarrytown, NY-based pharma marketing company Hudson Global, which houses 55+ employees and offers digital media, interactive marketing, strategy as well as data & analytics services. As a result of the acquisition, DFCB will align Hudson Global under its Healthcare umbrella, which also includes units such as  Area 23, Mosaic, NeON, and ProHealth.

Despite being bought up, though, the eight-year-old Hudson Global, which focuses on pharma, diagnostic and biotech, will keep its name, its Tarrytown office and leadership that includes co-founder/CEO/president Robert Blink and co-founder/EVP Jason Goldklang. In a statement, Draftfcb global CEO/president Laurence Boschetto says, “Our acquisition of Hudson is part of a long-term plan to make strategic acquisitions that will bolster our clients’ businesses and strengthen our agency’s offerings in those markets that offer the greatest opportunity.”

Can someone cue the Morgan Freeman VO on this? Anyhow, you might have remembered that Draftfcb New York picked up the Sea World business a few weeks ago. Harris, who originally joined Draft in 1996 from N.W. Ayer & Partners, has also worked at the likes of Ted Bates and Saatchi & Saatchi during her 25-year career. In a statement, Draftfcb CEO/president Laurence Boschetto speaks highly of the new global CSO, saying, “Vita has had a profound impact on our entire network thanks to her leadership role in the seamless integration of research and strategic planning into our core processes.”

Replacing Harris as Draftfcb NY CSO is Sara Bamber, formerly head of planning at Anomaly and most recently global head of strategy for Coca-Cola at SapientNitro.

In the wake of the huge SC Johnson loss, it was only a matter of time that the dreaded “L” word would be brought up in Draftfcb’s inner sanctum. Crain’s Chicago Business is reporting that agency’s top two execs, CEO/president Laurence Boschetto and global CFO Neil Miller, would be flying into Chicago today to discuss the issue of layoffs with Draft Chi’s president Michael Fassnacht and other senior managers. According to the trade, the cuts could total 200-250 in the Chicago office alone, which equates to 25 percent of the workforce in the Windy City. We’re sure we’ll hear about it when the axe actually does fall but in the meantime, you can read the full Chicago Business story here.

In a statement to Crain, SC Johnson says, “”It was a very difficult decision and we truly value the many contributions the Draftfcb team has made to the success of our business over a long-standing partnership.” The products under the “Family Company” umbrella include Windex, Pledge, Raid, Ziploc and Glade. So now, the question on the top of everyone’s heads we imagine is where does this leave Draftfcb, which just brought on a new CCO?

Well, Draftfcb CEO/president Laurence Boschetto offers his take, saying in a statement, “In looking at the highly professional way we have managed SC Johnson’s business over the years as well as the strong results we have helped the company achieve for many years, it’s difficult to understand this decision, but we obviously have no choice but to accept it. We wish our SCJ colleagues all over the world continued success as they build upon the very strong foundation that our two companies have collectively established.”

Boschetto continues, “It’s important to keep this situation in perspective. Our organization has grown significantly since our 2006 merger, and we’ve consistently been among the top performing networks for IPG. That growth has allowed us to substantially diversify our revenue base, making SCJ an increasingly smaller part of our global business over the past few years.”
