‘The Big Ad Gig’ Offers Its Annual Employment Boost for the Young and Inexperienced

The Big Ad Gig” turns five this year, meaning there’s another chance for six creatives to win a monthlong paid freelancing job at a New York City agency. Similar to last year’s campaign, contestants will have to deal with immediate pressure: they’ll each be given only 60 minutes to record a video response to the prompt question. Eight finalists will be selected, and then during Advertising Week, judges will whittle the eight down to six. An interesting stat worth noting: 28 of the 32 past finalists now have full-time positions at agencies.

Atmosphere Proximity and The New York Times are once again quarterbacking the contest. The judges include CEO of Proximity Atmosphere Andreas Combuechen, Ad Council Executive VP Priscilla Natkins, CP+B Partner Rob Reilly, Co:Collective Cofounder Rosemarie Ryan, Deutsch North America CEO Linda Sawyer, Ogilvy and Mather NY CCO Calle Sjoenell, and JWT CEO Bob Jeffrey.

‘The Big Ad Gig’ is Once Again Upon Us

Is it already that time again? The folks at Atmosphere Proximity have once again joined forces with The New York Times to launch the latest installment of “The Big Ad Gig.” We’ve been told by those in the know that the parties involved wanted to make the barrier to entry “low” this time around, and so, instead of all the pomp and circumstance, Big Ad Gig version 2K12 tests reflexes. Applicants will also have 60 seconds to answer a randomly-selected interview question and only one chance to respond using their webcams.

But as usual, five up-and-coming ad pros will be selected during Advertising Week and win a 30-day paid freelance gig at participating agencies. Along with the perennial spokesman (who’s becoming Don Draper before our very eyes), the judging panel this time around includes Proximity ECD Stewart Krull, CP+B worldwide CCO Rob Reilly, CP+B alum and current Co: Collective chief content officer Tiffany Rolfe, O&M CCO Calle Sjoenell and Deutsch CEO Linda Sawyer. FYI, we should have a video posted in case you’re interested by EOD.

Ruffo to Succeed Roche as CEO of Lowe Roche

There’s a changing of the guards up in Canada as Monica Ruffo will take over for Geoffrey Roche as CEO of Lowe Roche, the agency that the latter founded back in 1991 which was eventually acquired by Lowe in 1996. It appears that Roche himself is leaving the ad biz to focus on his new media company Poolhouse, which he co-founded with his son, Alexandre.

Who’s Monica Ruffo, you ask? Well, she’s currently the president of three-year-old, Montreal-based shop Amuse, which has now joined Lowe and Partners’ North American network (which is overseen by Deutsch North America CEO Linda Sawyer and includes Deutsch NY, Deutsch LA, ICC Lowe, Lowe Roche Toronto, and now Amuse). See, it all makes sense now, right? Anyhow, Geoffrey Roche isn’t splitting immediately as he’ll slowly transition duties to Ruffo, who will officially become CEO of Lowe Roche and Amuse on September 1.

In a statement, the departing exec says, “This has been a dream job for me. I’ve been able to create my own company, hired, mentored, and worked with many truly talented people and helped clients ring their cash registers over and over. I’m a very lucky man in more ways than I can begin to count. And now to be able to hand over the reins to such a talented and entrepreneurial spirit like Monica is a real honour.  I’m looking forward to seeing the Agency continuing to flourish and to my own exciting new adventure.”
