DISH Celebrates Funny Boston Accents, the Death of Commercials

You guys, people from Boston talk really funny. Did you know that? Oh man, they totally do.

Armed with this keen insight, DISH and BFG 9000 present a new campaign for the Hopper, known to most as the “Hawpah” because LOL Boston accents! Winner of “Best in Show” at this year’s CES, the Hopper™ with Sling® Whole-Home HD DVR allows people from Boston to skip commercials and loudly pronounce things in a hilarious way for the enjoyment of the masses.

But, as your favorite characters from The Departed would say, the fun doesn’t fahkin’ stawp there. That’s right, the Hawpah allows Bostonians like actor/rapper Mark Wahlberg to stream live TV on his tablet or mobile device while he’s taking a body builder-sized dump. One more “Boston Guys” spot, which features WTF TINY BEERS, follows after the jump.

The Best Ad-Related Videos of the Week

7. Ad-related means, to us, that a video in some way promotes a brand. So in this case scientists used LEGOs to build an apparatus to help their research, it’s not necessarily a purposeful promotion of the toy brand, but the effect is the same. Check it out.

6. The wall of death – it’s a classic trick of physics that became a popular circus attraction in the early days of automotive advancement. Today, what with the hipsters and all their days-of-yore aesthetic, the wall has made a comeback. Mazda capitalizes on the phenomenon by tossing their little Mazda 2.

So, What’s Our Takeaway from SXSWi 2012?

To sum up our literally 52-hour experience at SXSWi this year, we decided to just break down a couple of things that came to mind in terms of notes, what stood out and what was learned. Well, first of all, yours truly literally flew in Saturday afternoon, dropped stuff off at the Embassy Suites on South Congress, got the press badge, and then met up with a certain partner-in-crime of mine here named Bob Marshall.
