‘Hindsight Project’ Gathers Ad World Wisdom

To combat growing unease in the advertising world and encourage young creative upstarts, Mat Zucker, Andrea Leminke and David Gaddie have founded the “Hindsight Project.” Professionals from the advertising world share everything they wish they’d known, providing well-earned wisdom to aspiring ad-makers. Contagious editorial director Nick Parish talks about learning to write clearly (below), while JWT ECD Sarah Barclay advises people to be inventive.

In addition to the videos, the Hindsight site links to their Pinterest “Board of Wisdom” and a resources and recommendations page for ambitious interns everywhere.

The Hindsight Project is a heartwarming idea, as if the Mad Men attended a yoga retreat and finally found their inner children. And the practical aspect (resource list, impressive collection of stellar ad people to contact) pairs well with inspirational words. That said, I wish the site looked less like a cobbled-together school presentation. Tiny text and sloppy content placement make it a visually unpleasant destination. But they say it’s the thought that counts—and it’s high time the ad world got a bit more thoughtful. Check out one more clip featuring R/GA’s Barry Wacksman wax philosophical on succeeding on the business side after the jump.

Mat Zucker, OgilvyOne Part Ways

A source familiar with the matter sent us a memo from Dimitri Maex and Harvey Kipnis, managing director of OgilvyOne NY managing director and MD of OgilvyOne North America, respectively, that confirms CCO Mat Zucker has left the agency. Read below.

Nearly three-years ago Mat Zucker returned to OgilvyOne to embark on a journey with us to grow our creative portfolio in new directions.

He took us to Cannes with the Search for the World’s Greatest Salesman. He brought a fresh new meaning to David Ogilvy’s “We Sell, or Else” credo. He helped us win new business and became a sought-after creative jury member.

Mat has informed us that he is now ready to begin a new journey – and will be leaving Ogilvy. We will miss him. He was a terrific creative partner and mentor to many.

Please join us in wishing him all the best in his new venture.

Dimitri and Harvey”

No word on where Zucker is headed to, but from what his LinkedIn tells us, he’s also serving as a correspondent at The Faster Times. Ogilvy had to no look further than from within, as the departing exec’s duties will be absorbed by
Shackleton alum Alfonso Marian, who initially partnered with Zucker as co-CCO at OgilvyOne last summer. Prior to his second tour of duty at Ogilvy, Zucker held senior creative roles at the likes of Agency.com and R/GA.

Marian Joins Zucker as CCO at OgilvyOne

Will worlds collide if there are two chief creative officers at one agency? Probably not, but anyhow, that’s the new structure at OgilvyOne New York, which has just brought on Alfonso Marian to serve as CCO alongside Mat Zucker, who has held his title at the agency for over two years.

Marian joins from Shackleton in Madrid, where he served as executive creative director for seven years and picked up awards for his work on campaigns for pay TV channels in Spain, PSAs and pro-bono projects in the process. Prior to that, the creative spent ten years at what would become CP Proximity BBDO, moving up from senior art director to ECD during his time there. Marian’s new boss, Ogilvy North America CCO Steve Simpson says, “Alfonso is an important addition to our creative leadership, and his hiring is one of the successes of our ongoing and aggressive talent strategy.”
