Cannes Picks Three More Jury Presidents

With the 2011 Cannes Lions festival coming up rapidly, the organizers have appointed three more advertising execs to head the prestigious juries.

Among those keeping Film/Press Jury president Tony Granger company on the French Riviera this time around are R/GA EVP and CCO Nick Law, who will preside over the Cyber Jury. A 10-year R/GA vet, Law has received internationally award-winning acclaim including during a period where he served as ECD of the agency’s Nike account.

Leading the Outdoor jury is Publicis Worldwide CCO Olivier Altmann, a 24-year advertising veteran who joined Publicis in 2004. Under Altmann’s leadership, Publicis made major inroads in Europe, and the man’s résumé includes two years as head of Cannes’ Eurobest Jury.

Finally, Ogilvy and Mather Asia Pacific Regional ECD Eugene Cheong (pictured) will serve as the Radio Jury President. The Cannes flack boasts that Cheong carries the reputation of being Asia’s “most awarded copywriter and creative director” and has more Gold Lions and Gold One Show awards than anyone else in said continent. Cheong’s 18-year history with Ogilvy includes positions in London, L.A. and across Asia, while his eyewear choices are as fashionable as they are functional.

R/GA’s Vin Farrell Appointed VP for Agency’s Digital Studio

R/GA announced that Vin Farrell, currently serving as head of production, has been bumped up to VP for the agency’s digital studio.

In addition to what the new job post demands of him, Farrell will be charged with expanding R/GA’s digital studio to R/GA’s global offices while working closely with Nick Law, EVP, chief creative officer, North America.
The one and only Bob Greenberg, R/GA’s chairman, CEO, and global chief creative officer, says in a statement, “R/GA has an esteemed production legacy with more than 30 years of experience in the space. Our award-winning Digital Studio is a vital component of our agency model, and Vin is just the person to take the group to the next level, Vin’s ability to leverage both traditional and digital production strategies has helped position R/GA as an industry leader.”

Farrell has achieved a series of high-level accomplishments while at R/GA, including growing revenue in the last year by 65 percent and being directly involved in more than 650 jobs. From 2004 to 2006, Farrell was an agency producer at Digitas, where he produced and directed works for the New York Times, Pfizer, the Boston Globe, Gillette, FedEx, American Express, General Motors, Eli Lilly, and KitchenAid.

R/GA Adds ECDs in Chicago

Though it has only 13 employees in tow at the moment, R/GA’s Chicago office is looking to ramp up staff (30 by year’s end is the goal) and in doing so, the agency hired executive creative directors Ken Erke and Matt Marcus to help lead the way.

Erke (pictured) was formerly EVP/CCO at Y&R Chicago, overseeing accounts including Craftsman, Die Hard, Hilton Hotels, and Sears. The creative actually had two stints at Y&R, initially spending six years at the agency (2000-2006) before leaving briefly for a VP/group creative director post at Cramer-Krasselt.

Marcus, meanwhile, was formerly worldwide director of e-business for Gucci and spent the past two years as a consultant for the likes of R/GA before being bumped up to full-time. He and Erke will both report to R/GA’s North American CCO Nick Law.
