Campbell Mithun Welcomes David Carter as CCO

Minneapolis-based agency Campbell Mithun has announced the hiring of industry veteran David Carter, formerly of BBDO New York,  as its new chief creative officer.

Carter is one of the most highly awarded creatives in advertising today, with two of the One Show’s Top Ten Campaigns of the decade with BMW Films and HBO Voyeur. He’s worked with clients including BMW, Amazon, Starbucks, HBO, AT&T, Chrysler, Jeep, Pepsi and Glenlivet Whisky.

“David’s body of work over the years is testament to his belief in platform creativity—drawing upon data, technology and emerging media to deliver brand stories,” said Campbell Mithun CEO Rob Buchner.

Carter was equally optimistic about the move, stating, “You only have to read a headline or two each day to see how quickly the agency and media worlds are changing. The combination of Campbell Mithun’s legacy of big, brand ideas and its commitment to new media thinking and strategy is the perfect fit for me. I couldn’t be more excited.” Carter reported for duty at Campbell Mithun today, representing the agency’s “latest investment in talent since Rob Buchner took the helm in mid-2013.” Other recent moves at Campbell Mithun include Steve Adrndt‘s promotion to COO and the hiring of Denis Budniewski as director of account leadership and growth back in September.

Campbell Mithun Moving to New, ‘Employee-Centric’ Space

Nope, Campbell Mithun’s not moving out of its home turf in Minneapolis but the agency will be settling into new Twin Cities digs come Q4 of next year. The 80-year-old, IPG-owned agency has just signed a lease to be the lead tenant in the 510 Marquette building and will occupy approximately 65,000 square feet on the 10th-13th floors as well as the rooftop and penthouse. So, why the move? Well, according to CFO Steve Arndt (above), the goal is to offer a more “employee-centric” environment in a space that has, yes, “no ceiling tiles” and adopts the now-popular open floorplan model. Campbell Mithun is working with Julie Snow Architects on the new office, which you can see in barebones form via the b-roll clip of staffers below. If you care for further explanation on the move, this time from CM CEO Rob Buchner, you can check out the brief :30 clip after the jump.

King Succeeds Buchner as Fallon CMO

It took a couple of months, but Fallon has found a new chief marketing officer from within, appointing 16-year vet John King to the position. King (pictured) takes over for Rob Buchner, a 25-year Fallon vet who if you recall left the agency in June to assume the role of CEO at fellow Twin Cities op, Campbell Mithun. As for the new CMO, King spent the last five years serving as chief communications officer at Fallon, working with a client roster that includes General Mills and NBCU.

Along with the CMO appointment, Fallon has also brought on Charles Wolford, formerly of Modernista! and 72andSunny, as chief production officer. Additionally, Rocky Novak has shifted from director of digital development to managing director and Julie McBride from director of talent to a larger role as director of talent and communications.

Buchner Succeeds Wehrenberg as Campbell Mithun Chief Exec

It took a couple of months, but Minneapolis-based IPG agency Campbell Mithun has finally found a new CEO in Rob Buchner, a nearly 25-year Fallon vet who actually kicked off his ad career at the former agency as an account executive in the mid-80s. Buchner replaces Steve Wehrenberg, who remains on as a consultant for CM but has taken a leadership position at the University of Minnesota’s Journalism/Mass Communications program. Buchner, meanwhile, had spent the last nine years at Fallon serving as its chief marketing officer. He will assume his CEO post at Campbell Mithun on July 8.
