The Audi S8 Will Make Pedestrians Suspect You’re a Criminal

Debuting tonight during the Giants vs. Cowboys NFL season kickoff, the above 60-second spot from Venables Bell & Partners titled “Suspect” marks the first time Audi is introducing its full line of S models to the U.S.

Despite the YouTube commentariat noting that the S8 is too overweight to be race-engineered, an accusation that sounds plausible though I am too unfamiliar with racing to confirm or deny the validity of it, Audi has selected the campaign tagline “Heighten Every Moment” to describe the intensity that waiting in your car for your girlfriend to pickup coffee will undoubtedly provide. Yes, most passerby will assume you stole the S8, and may have your sights set on that armored car as well. Just don’t be a minority driving the S8 (especially in Arizona), or you’ll most likely be shot by a rent-a-cop with a transistor radio.

Audi is also pleased to announce today that it will be returning to Super Bowl advertising for the sixth consecutive year in early 2013. Watch this year’s spot, “Vampire Party,” here and view credits for “Suspect” after the jump.

Gamers Called Upon to ‘Take Earth Back’

During last night’s broadcast of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Electronic Arts debuted the above spot from DraftFCB SF for the new title coming to stores March 6, Mass Effect 3. Before you fret, realize that the spot aired after the Academy Awards ended, and many who felt like remaining on the couch (me included) flipped over just in time to see it.

Since debuting yesterday, the emotional spot depicting the end of the world, an alien invasion, and the battle for humanity’s survival has already chalked up more than 75,000 views on YouTube. Filmed over six days in Prague, “Fight for Everything” is, in a word, cinematic, so much so that it’s initially quite difficult to tell what exactly the spot is advertising. But it succeeds where it aims to, making ME:3 look enticing to gamers and non-gamers alike. Sure, it’s a little bit Halo and a little bit Star Wars, but that doesn’t make images of people running for their lives any less moving.

Also, since the Vancouver hockey riots of 2011, it’s hard to imagine a scene of mass chaos that doesn’t include two young people making out. Maybe that’s the “better with Kinect” feature Electronic Arts is hinting at. Credits after the jump.

Men Trampled by Women for Shoes, QuikTrip Sandwiches

The confusing thing about this spot from the Richards Group and Park Pictures director and Oscar-winner Joachim Back is which of the groups in question needs to buy a sandwich from QuikTrip?

Is is the men, attempting to console each other before they are trampled to death by women with a hunger for cheap shoes, that don’t have time to take a long lunch break lest their store fall into even greater disrepair? Or is the women, driven mad by the siren call of discounted footwear, that are forced hit up the local convenience store for nourishment before trampling the poor shoe stores employees? Either way, someone in this town devoid of Subway or Quiznos is getting an Italian sub from QuikTrip, and at least once person is ending up in the hospital.

It’s sexist, it’s silly and all in good fun (on par with that movie Confessions of a Shopaholic), but give a convenience store credit for taking a creative leap with their marketing once in a while. Judging by QuikTrip’s website, the store could be planning for a total image redesign soon, so expect to see a lot more ads like this in the future. Caps lock-addled credits after the jump.
