Deutsch NY Brings All 12 Days of Christmas to Life for PNC

Today is the day that Deutsch NY client PNC Bank releases its annual “Christmas Price Index,” which helps put the old 12-day carol in perspective by pricing every gift on the list.

A release tells us that the agency noted that the song had hit an all-time low in popularity this year and sought to reinvigorate it by presenting users with a “modern twist” on each item.

The corresponding “The Great Carol Comeback” site features an intro explaining PNC’s role in the project as well as a page for each present. First comes the partridge in his pear tree, which has risen in price thanks to both inflation and a healthy tech addiction (readers should click for the full interactive book experience):

Holding companies are certainly interested: you may recall that Sir Martin and WPP bought a stake in the still-growing company in 2012 before Rupert Murdoch could climb on board.

Vice also acquired Carrot Creative back in 2013, and Carrot CEO Mike Germano assumed the chief digital officer position.

There’s no denying that Vice Media does real work: in July we posted on in-house creative studio Virtue’s Spanglish-flavored campaign for AT&T. Based on what we hear from both an inside source and a report in this morning’s New York Post, the company seems to have all the interpersonal drama of a traditional ad agency as well.

So, What Were Folks Really Thinking During the WPP/Vice Upfront?

About a month ago, Vice and WPP threw what some deemed a “boozy upfront” down on Wall Street to say hello to advertisers. Vice co-founder Shane Smith and Martin Sorrell, whose holding company bought a minority stake in the growing media giant a year ago, were both in attendance as were 300+ industry folks who seemed absolutely thrilled with goings-on. Well, that is if we’re to believe the person or persons behind a new Tumblr site called Blazing Couture, who apparently picked up the notes left behind at the event (apparently, everyone got notepads) and posted. We can’t determine the validity of the paper trail, but we sure do get a kick out of it. Above and below are just a couple of examples.
