Momentum Parts Ways with Marrs

Two years after joining IPG unit Momentum to spearhead its “future-generation content studio” dubbed Momentum Studio, Steven Marrs is no longer with the agency, which has been self-described as a “future-generation content studio.” The New York-based Marrs, who actually co-founded Tribal DDB and served as its president/COO in subsequent years, worked as president/managing partner out of New York for Momentum.

No word yet on the “changing shape” of its entertainment practice, but a Momentum spokesperson tells us, “We wish Steven well in his next steps.”

Momentum Officially Launches Entertainment Group

It took six months after the initial announcement, but Deadline.com is reporting that IPG’s Momentum is finally launching its new “future-generation content studio” dubbed Momentum Entertainment Group. As we noted back in January, the leadership will be toplined by Momentum chairman/CEO Chris Weil and Tribal DDB co-founder Steven Marrs, who will serve as president/managing partner of MEG and work out of New York.

According to Deadline, Momentum Entertainment Group will also have offices in Hollywood and New Orleans. Marrs says in a statement, “In creating Momentum Entertainment Group, we are building an innovative way of providing the Hollywood creative community with unique financing and packaging models to connect with broadcasters and brands worldwide.” You can read Weil’s original memo regarding MEG here.

Momentum Taps Tribal DDB Co-Founder to Lead New Content Studio

Momentum CEO Chris Weil sent an email to staff yesterday announcing the launch of a new unit that the IPG-owned agency’s dubbed Momentum Entertainment Group.

Calling it a “future-generation content studio,” Weil says MEG enhances Momentum’s “Phygital” offering (see definition here) and gives the agency some solid ground when it comes to original programming and “Hollywood content creation.” Perhaps Momentum is taking a cue from rival Publicis, which made its own foray into branded entertainment in 2009.  Anyhow, Weil has chosen Tribal DDB co-founder/former COO& president Steven Marrs to lead MEG out of New York. Marrs most recently steered the ship at his own prodco, Branded Pictures.
